Best FTTC Router?

Hi,
Just a bit of advice really. I currently have the PN supplied Netgear WNR1000 router. This is connected to my
Western Digital MyBook Live (via Ethernet) and multiple devices around the home including  laptop, smart phones, tablet, printer and blueray player.

Is it worth the upgrade to a  Netgear N300,N600 or even the N750/N900? Would I see better wireless speeds or transfer of data?

Any recommendations for a better/faster replacement to the WNR1000 (which has great wi-fi coverage in my house)

Thanks
Chris

What kind of wireless speeds are you seeing at the moment vs. what you want to see?

Re: Best FTTC Router?

the WNR1000 is only wireless G, so if you upgrade to a wireless N and have wireless N compatible clients then you should see a significant speed increase.
I upgraded from a WNR1000 to an Apple Airport Extreme and saw my wireless speeds jump from roughtly 30mbps to 65mbps for a speedtest, transfer around the local network also improved as that's gigabit.

Don't ask! Currently got a fault logged. 5MB at the mo.  Angry
Speedbest shows (normally) 32MB on apples test (wirelessly)

I'm using the Asus RT-N66U with Merlin's 26b firmware, and I can highly recommend it.
Wireless coverage and speed is excellent Cool

Re: Best FTTC Router?

Netgear consumer products have really gone downhill over the last few years IMO and aren't as reliable as they used to be, so I'd stay away.

Does the Asus suffer any overheating problems?

Re: Best FTTC Router?

No, at least mine doesn't,  It has a huge aluminium heatsink inside, and the radios stay around 55 celcius on the hotter days.

Its gone back up to £110 now.... But when I went into PC world, they still had the promotional pos up displaying it for £99.99...
It scanned up at £110, so I obviously questioned it, and went to get the price ticket from the shelf, which they honoured. Woo hop!

Re: Best FTTC Router?

I use the Asus RT-N56U which is considerably cheaper than the N66U. It does everything that I require but I'm not technically savvy. Therefore, why is the 66U over £30.00 more expensive?
