re: BTW Line test ip-profile & Plusnet profile - can PN tech review call #86757806
Over the last 2 months dealing with PN support, I've been trying to get my FTTC line altered so the ip-profile of 21.68 Mbps reported by the BTW line test is increased to something more like 27 Mbps
This because previously my line has sat quite happily at 25Mbps and been very stable (for 9 months or more), yet sometime recently it got reset down.
The initial response from PN support (it took 5 days !!) was that my line speed was inline with BT estimate.
I pointed out the stats from my HH-5 at the time..
6. Data rate: 4450 / 22398
7. Maximum data rate: 4189 / 33208
8. Noise margin: 5.2 / 6.7
9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 27.4
10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 24.3
I also posted previous line stats from an earlier call in Sept-2013 - that had been related to short-circuit in BT-side house wiring that took out everything including the phone - but VDSL came back at 27Mbps
[<START
Please refer to line test details below following line correction mentioned above, confirming download speeds returned to 27.2Mbps, even though the estimate is still logged at 21.5 Mbps....

Time Stamp 2013-09-06T05:15:00
>>> paste ended >>>
END>]
The PN tech responded that my profile had been increased back to 28Mbps, but I should be prerpared it may go down again.
Nothing changed - BTW still reported the ip-profile at 21.68, even after a week.
It looks like he had only adjusted my Plusnet profile, not anything at the BTW side.
So my PN profile says 28Mbps, yet still I am stuck with ip-profile at 21.68
Please can some experienced PN tech look at the ticket #86757806 and get this resolved.
Thanks.

Hi Work4Cunard,
Sorry to see that you're frustrated with this.
I've taken a look over your line and the DLM currently has a profile set of 11.2M-22.4M Downstream, your sync speed is currently at 22.4Mb/s so it won't go any higher until the DLM alters its profile.
We do need to leave your connection stable, the DLM will continue to monitor your connection and when it see's fit it will increase your profile.
I'm not sure why somebody has changed your profile to 28Mb/s on our systems as this to be honest will make no difference to your connection, I'll realign your profile to match your current speed.
Leaving your line for the moment is the best way to fix this.

EDITED: I've just been advised by my colleague Mister-W that CSC names not allowed in posting, Apologies.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for the swift response.
I don't know whether you managed to have a look at the original ticket log, but the figures reported back by your colleague SL (pasted below) suggest my line should be able to return to the 27Mbps I enjoyed previously.
The situation has not improved at all since I originally raised the call on 08-Jun (and I'd already left it a week before then, to see if it would sort itself out), so that is 6 weeks without the DLM adjusting my profile upwards, yet all the while my HH-5 has been reporting considerably higher capability, 29-32Mbps.
Can you request a DLM reset and let the line settle itself?
It is odd that the profile has set at a level that matches the BT line estimate.
If I was still with TalkTalk, I'd be getting suspcious that the profile had been set this way deliberately to limit bandwidth to "what they advised/estimated" rather than "what I can achieve"
BT & Plusnet wouldn't do that - would they?
Best regards
Kev

Dear Mr Mcgee,
Thank you for getting back to us.
I have checked the details of your line profile to ensure that it matches with your account profile.
You are correct that this has been reduced to 21MB, this can happen as the line is monitored by a Dynamic Line Manager in the exchange. As such it can reduce the connection speeds automatically if it feels the line is showing signs of instability.
I have checked what your line can support, which can be seen below:
Telephone Number 0161xxxxxxxx on Exchange OLDHAM is served by Cabinet 120
High Low High Low
FTTC Range A (Clean) 30.7 21.9 7.2 5.4 -- Available
FTTC Range B (Impacted) 24.2 11.5 6.6 3.1 -- Available
Based on these results and looking through your speed profile history I have increased your account profile to help push the speeds back up to the 27MB range. please be aware that this may not be maintained, as it is updated automatically by the DLM
You should notice a difference over the next couple of days.
I hope this clears things up for you. There is no need to reply to this ticket if the matter is resolved. This ticket will remain open with you for the next 14 days. After which It will automatically close leaving a full copy of the notes on your account.
However, if you feel the matter needs further investigation do not hesitate to get back in touch online at http://portal.plus.net/wizard/ if we can be of any further assistance.
Kind regards,
SL

Terranova667,
What is the BT estimate for your line - 57Mbps?
Just sounding out whether ip-profiles are being limited to BT estimates rather than line capabilities.

my estimate was 67Mb when i joined plusnet back in March but it has since been cut down to 29Mb with no reason given from BTO / BTW, most likely crosstalk and or capacity issues that they wont do anything about any time soon if at all.
It's simply DLM I honestly believe it doesn't work in giving speeds back I have seen no evidence of it in any shape or form, as i said it's been six weeks and nothing I don't believe for one minute that my line is no longer good enough.
The speed test in my sig was what i could achive before the line fault and DLM sticking it's nose in, this is what i get at present
