Thanks Adam.
Not sure how much longer it will hold at 2500kbps... but making hay while the sun shines Smiley

No problem gyre, good stuff.
Have you had problems with disconnections or varying synch speeds to your awareness?

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

Hi Adam.  Thanks for asking.
I periodically... maybe once a day or so... get an immediate disconnect when an incoming call happens.  But I've had that for the last year or so, so I'm getting used to it.  The BT guy didn't think it was anything at fault my end... but CBA to fix it when he was here.
The sync speeds are very consistent.  So much so, in fact, that I've been able to manually tweak my SNR margin to around 5dB and get a 2880kpbs sync speed, giving me for the first time ever a 2500kbps bras profile.
Ok, there are a fair number of line errors... around 30-40 every 15 mins... but none are really *that* noticeable.  This is the fastest I've ever had it, and considering I have between 63.5 and 70dB attenuation depending on what variant of ADSL I enable, is pretty remarkable for this technological backwater I'm living in.
Being on the DLM trial is brill for me.  Not having to worry about my target SNR margin rising above 6... and not being banded... has worked out really great.  Not sure what I'm going to do when it's over and I have to go back to the overly-restrictive DLM.

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

I am in a very similar situation to yourself.
I am on  long line approx 5.5km,but it is very stable,i am currently holding a 2848kb/s sync, currently with a dg834gt tweaked at 4db noise margin.
I have been recently testing a 2700hgv,this was excellent, and would sync at 2696kb at 6db noise margin, but this router is not tweakable.
How did you get on the DLM trial,i would like some of that !

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

I'm currently using a DG834GV4.  Tweaked to 60% on the SNR margin.  Also forced to use ADSL1, as 2 and 2+ give poorer results for me.
I have a 2700HG.  I've not tried it recently, but it used to give a higher sync, but wasn't stable.  Nor tweakable.  I have the old SBC firmware on it.
I got put on what I think is a DLM trial... or something similar... because I have had massive problems with my high error rates causing the DLM to put on terribly restrictive banding and uber high target SNR margins.

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

Talking about the 2700hgv,yours must be the single ssid model to have the sbc firmware on it.
I have just got hold of a single ssid model also, flashed the sbc firmware, but currently still have 3 channels and 4 power levels, did you flash the sbc firmware yourself and have to wait for all the channels and power settings to appear?
The dg824gt has to be snr adjusted to match the speed of the 2700,but the gt's wifi power is pathetic compared to the 2700.
What is surprising is the gt when snr treaked at 3.5db noise margin is still very stable here, the downside is that unlike the 2700,the higher tones that become unusable at night are not re used after,so the snr is forced to stay low the next day, until a re sync is forced.
The other great feature on the 2700 is echo cancelling, this is what allows higher sync rate for a 6db target,if i could have snr tweaking, the 2700 for me would be the better router.

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

I've not investigated much about the 2700 other than a cursory play.  I got it from digidave a year ago and haven't flashed it yet.  When I first used it, it quickly messed up my target SNR margin which had been 6dB for years... and became a 9dB overnight and never dropped again for over a year even on other routers until I reset every DLM parameter on the current trial.
As far as the DG834Gv4 goes... I turn off the wireless and all other router functions except the actual DSL modem, and talk to it via ethernet from a Draytek 2920 router.  I also use a separate Netgear WG602v4 as the wireless access point throughout the house.  This 'separates' arrangement means I can quickly replace the DSL modem with another one such as a Speedtouch 585v7 and nothing else on the LAN needs to change nor even notice other than a brief interruption of service
I find the DG834Gv4's tweaked snr margin drops to about 4.5 at night... then goes back up to about 5.3 during the day.  I've not looked at which tones are used.  No need for a resync so far.

Hi Gyre,
I'm sorry we missed this post the other day, I've checked and the profile has already updated.
As an aside I can see a lot of disconnections showing on your logs at this side, is this you rebooting? if not I'd advise raising a fault:

Re: BT profile to plusnet profile sync pls PN folks :)

Hi Adam.
No worries about missing my post.  As you say, the systems are synced at the moment.
The disconnections are usually due to incoming (or occasionally outgoing) phone calls.  The error rates go sky high during the calls.  This has been happening since at least the early part of this year.
I've had BT out twice to fix it, but to no avail.  The last BT chap spent a couple of hours working out whether it was stuff on the premises my end... and said it wasn't... but asked me to ask you to call them out again to fix it properly.  I did mention this on the ticket at the time, but I guess I didn't raise it as a separate fault.
The problem is partly that BT test with their grotty ADSL modem and it syncs at like 1700kbps and they're happy.  I put in my far more sensitive modem(s) and get sync rates over 2300kbps... in fact I'm currently syncing over 2800kbps... but of course, my rates are correspondingly far more sensitive to incoming calls than the BT ones are.
Some of the disconnects might have been due to the service interruptions between midnight and 6am this morning.

gyre,
Rather than living with this problem and us having to keep nudging your IP profile it may be better to put some focus back on a long term solution.
I don't mind appealing to our faults team to get some ownership from an experienced agent. Let me know what you think.
Adam.
