Re: BT Speedtester

I had this query a while back, it depends on what your profile is showing,  mine was 7000 again with a download of only 900 ish, again I couldnt realy have cared less for the same reasons as you, I followed the Kitz route and tweeked my Rwin, it was about 8000 from memory and I put it up to 100000 now my download speed is in the region of 5800-6000.  dont normally notice any difference on what we do only on downloads Smiley

I can see the logic in what you're saying; the mismatch in MTU results in fragmentation...
BUT for most people, and for download speed tests definitely, we're looking at traffic FROM the Internet through the router to the PC.
So having the router MTU smaller than the PC shouldn't cause a problem, should it.... Crazy
(And yes, I know there's traffic the other way but it should mostly be very small acknowledgement packets surely?)
I'm trying to understand this logically and failing so far.

Re: BT Speedtester

Not sure of the exact mechanism - but I've seen the difference! I think it is something like if the sender doesn't find the MTU in the router but finds the PC says it will accept 1500, it may send 1500 byte messages. These will then be fragmented by the router. (MTU path discovery should see that the router only accepts smaller packets and the sender should therefore send smaller packets)

"The system is currently busy. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."
*Jelv* Yes, I've seen a (significant) difference too, but I don't understand why, which is very frustrating!  Angry

Re: BT Speedtester

They seem to have fixed it:
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3264 kbps
Unfortunately they broke something else - all 622mbps of it!  Sad

Re: BT Speedtester

Good to see it's working again.  Just ran a test and speeds seem very low compared to what I normally get.  Any reason for this apart from the time of day?
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2717 kbps
