Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Yes my connection was switched in February 2010.
Then, although I'm on a legacy product, in August I requested my connection be changed to ADSL2+.
The sad thing is that my connection speed was a solid 4500+ kbps while on ADSL, but dropped to the current speed after a couple of weeks. However, trying to keep a track of that is pretty difficult until this speedtester gets fixed.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Have been following this thread since it started as my BT tests have been all over the place. Following Bob P's request I tested late last night and this morning and both results looked exactly as I would expect.
Interesting we are now getting upload speed tests as well, I didn't get those before but a relative of mine on BT broadband always did.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Test this morning at about 9.00am - IP profile still wrong
Edit - just had a discussion with Plusnet - my IP profile is showing as 3000 on the BT system (this was due to a 15 minute drop in sync speed 3 days ago) but it didn't report to the Plusnet system

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

This morning's results. Non-www. address seems to be fixed but www. address playing up again.
On www. address at 8.52 am, correct IP profile (8000) but error message on upstream and no detailed results for downstream.
On non-www. started 8.56 am
Download speed achieved during the test was - 6397 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :9007 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1159 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 8000 Kbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 944 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1159 Kbps

P.S. I had expected the profile of 8000 to go down to 7150 when I rebooted the router a couple of days ago and it resynced at JUST under the speed required for 8000. Looks like it's not quite caught up yet!

Just tested at 9:25 this morning and results, attached, seem correct.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Oh dear! There I am thinking that the BT Speedtester is reporting a wrong value for the IP profile of 7150kb/s when I would be expecting, and had, 8000kb/s, as expected for a stable sync of 9363kb/s. Now I see that the Plusnet IP has dropped from 8000kb/s to mirror the BT value of 7150kb/s. The actual throughput remains unaltered at 6500kb/s on mybroadbandspeed. (BT's speedtester fell over at the upload test, after reporting the profile.) The CSC guy I spoke to by telephone on Monday expected the BT value to rise to 8000kb/s within two days.
Is the BT Speedtester really broken and if it is why is Plusnet's system responding to it?

But is it?
The download speed 14201 kb/s is bigger than the IP profile of 14000kb/s, and the maximum acceptable speed of 21000kb/s is larger than the DS sync at 16242kb/s.
From the results I see for my line, when I get any results at all that is, the download speed and sync seem to be correctly reported but the profile is suspect.

Well, it did that before the recent shenanigans, so normal service has been resumed. The synch speeds and profiles are correct, and the upstream speed is correct as well.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Thanks guys, not lost sight of this thread, just been pretty busy with other stuff over recent days! Wink
Seems that there's definitely been an improvement, Jim are the discrepancies you've reported due to the BT/PN mismatch then do you think?
I'll check everybody's  profiles against the results when I get the chance. My concern now is the throughout speed. It seems to be higher than the IP Profile on occasion and I've seen some examples of 18Mbps lines reporting 8Mbps throughout when the figure should be far higher given the circumstances (was a member of staff testing for me).
I'm yet to get back to BT following the last call I had with them.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Bob and all
I just ran the BT test and it does seem pretty much ok. My IP Profile it gives is 20000Kbps although the Plusnet profile is 17000Kps
