Wouldn't an M60 be more efficient to aim at BT? Aren't Thompsons a tad dated?
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

No an AK47 is much better, I used to work in a part of the old Lee Enfield/Stirling factory a long time ago about 1960

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Another example where throughput exceeds IP profile. Taken at 15:20 today:
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6050 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4164 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 744 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 15.97:17.81:66.23 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 341 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 744 Kbps

I am actually synching at 14915 Kbps and 440 Kbps upstream, with a PN Ip Profile of 6500. It seems that all PN 21CN connections are affected. Seems that other types are not.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

I have just had an odd set of results, at 1655 today, 22nd. The DS profile should 8000kb/s and the sync rates are DS 9515kb/s and US 1191kb/s.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 5129 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1000-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3069 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 427 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 10.13:24.06:65.81 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 921 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 427 Kbps

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Here are my dodgy results from http://217.35.209.142/
Test time: 22/09/10 19:53
My router reported sync speed is currently 3974 Kbps downstream and 444 Kbps upstream.
My Plusnet reported profile is 4000 and has been since at least May, but I suspect that is duff as well, as I have not connected above 4500 kbps for several weeks (a few weeks after switching to ADSL2+  Sad ).
My Broadband Speed gives result: 2886 kbps download and 209 kbps. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm on a 3000 kbps bottleneck... err profile somewhere along the line, so the download is probably about right, but the upload seems like just an another broken tester result.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download speed achieved during the test was - 2095 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 100-500 Kbps.
Your DSL Connection Rate :8388 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 6.12:28.06:65.82 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 358 Kbps
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 888 Kbps

Edit: added test time

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

This looks correct  Smiley (22nd Sep at 21:35):
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 5957 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 2000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :14915 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 13000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 19.36:24.59:56.05 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 344 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 440 Kbps

All of the above match expectations. The low throughout is because of the PN IP profile of 6500 which has yet to be increased.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Hi Tony,
Just lifted the PN profile to match 13000, you should see it shortly.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

BT Speedtester still all over the place for me:
Tested at around 14:45 on 2010/09/23
Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
6162 Kbps

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Now correct again for me at 5.50am 24th Sept.:
Quote
Download speedachieved during the test was - 6429 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 2000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :14915 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 440 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 13000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 11.31:47.59:41.1 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 334 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 440 Kbps

However, last evening it was giving rubbish or not finishing. Could it be something to do with demand? Could others try at less busy times and see if they then get sensible results?

It just fell over here at the upload test, 0700, I think there is an element of luck involved.
(Not quite on topic but why the low download result relative the sync rate and profile.)

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

There is a consistent and massive discrepancy between the speeds recorded by my broadbandspeed and speedtest.net.
I , no longer believe any speed test.
