@dave and jim,
can I ask you both to run the speed tests at speedtester.bt.com and then www.speedtester.com and see if the results match. I've been doing some troubleshooting but there are no reported faults with it and these 2 url's although they are supposed to be the same may give different results on 21CN, so, guys, I'd appreciate your help on this one.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

HI dave, and thanks for your help.
I did want 2 bt tests though. 1 from speedtester.bt.com which you've done, and another one from www.speedtester.bt.com

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Jojo
Both those URLs point to the same pair of IP addresses:
Name:    www.speedtester.bt.com
Addresses:  217.35.209.142
          217.32.105.42
Name:    speedtester.bt.com
Addresses:  217.35.209.142
          217.32.105.42
So, I guess that it may be that the two servers give different results.
I can try both tonight if you want.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

HI Jim, sorry for the delay.
I need a few examples, so just if dave does that for me I'll be able to take it further.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Does the upstream test only appear for people on 21CN?

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

It's interesting that the BT speedtester no longer goes to the second screen where user details are checked (where you used to input your ID and plusdsl.net).
Like others, I've found that the results don't make sense. I just hope that my IP profiles are being wrongly stated. It claims my downstream profile is 5500, when the Plusnet IP profile is given as 7150 (correct for my current sync speed of 8279) and that my upstream profile is 448, when I'm on an uncapped upstream connection (with a sync speed of 800).
I wouldn't worry, as we know the speedtester isn't working properly at the moment - except that my current downstream throughput is pretty slow - between 3800 and 4200 according to a few PN broadband speed tests a couple of minutes ago. I hope that's just congestion somewhere.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

I have noticed this too over the past few days, wherein the stated IP Profile is very wrong. Right now my actual IP profile is probably somewhere between 750 and 2000 downstream, and 448 upstream, but after running the test right now, it stated 13000/955. I ran it before and it gave a downstream profile of 40-thousand odd (I wish!). Another time, 396kbps. Always a different set of data and always wrong (at least, this week).
One peculiarity I have noticed is that on occasion, an error is thrown relating to the username being invalid (didn't write down the exact error), but it will be a different username to my own, e.g. some.guy@btinternet.com. As for others, I am no longer being prompted to enter a username either. It seems as if the speed tester is getting a bit confused and is actually returning somebody elses connection data, and then comparing that to your own test results.
I'm on 21CN.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

need I say more, just done

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6379 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 2000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3184 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 468 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 14000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 9.02:31.53:59.45 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
361 Kbps

0 Kbps 468 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
>Upload speed achieved during the test was - 361 Kbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 468 Kbps

Here are mine from last evening
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.
