Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

It looks like they are working on the BT speedtester to include upstream speeds - I've had a couple of strange results testing tonight, with first test showing 7150 IP profile, and a later one showing 350 IP profile. As I am synching at over 16500, my actual IP profile should be 14000. Speed tests on other sites show more or less normal results.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

HI daveplus,
from what I can see your profile is 17000.
@all,
we are seeing a few strange speedtester results and I am having that looked into, so more to follow on that one.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

@dave and jim,
can I ask you both to run the speed tests at speedtester.bt.com and then www.speedtester.com and see if the results match. I've been doing some troubleshooting but there are no reported faults with it and these 2 url's although they are supposed to be the same may give different results on 21CN, so, guys, I'd appreciate your help on this one.

Currently getting "The Performance Tester is currently unable to run a speed test for your broadband connection. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider." from the BT speedtester.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

Tried the BT Speedtester again a few minutes ago - it ran this time, but results are a bit odd, suggesting capped upstream and downstream profiles, however performance is as expected.
Router reports:
Line state Connected
Connection time 1 days, 19:12:01
Downstream 16,532 Kbps
Upstream 1,120 Kbps
BT Speedtest result:
Test1 comprises of two tests
1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Download Speed
14328 Kbps

0 Kbps 21000 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Download speed achieved during the test was - 14328 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2000-21000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8124 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 444 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 14000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.69:22.85:60.47 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
Upload Speed
920 Kbps

0 Kbps 444 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 920 Kbps
Additional Information:

We were unable to identify any performance problem with your service at this time.
It is possible that any problem you are currently, or had previously experienced may have been caused by traffic congestion on the Internet or by the server you were accessing responding slowly.

Re: BT Speedtester - is it broken?

I tried this piece of rubbish.
It asked for phone number - but not my account name.
It then did separate download and upload "tests".
It got both my Download and Upload DSL rates wrong.
Although, the actual upload/download rates appear to be only a bit on the low side.
