BB dropouts

Since Oct 18 we have had multiple dropouts.

Neighbours not using PN are OK.

Four dropouts today, last two in last 10 minutes.

PN: anything happening at your end?

Re: BB dropouts

I think that was cleared up this morning. Anyway, our dropouts have been happening since the 18th.

If PN confirm no issues we need to pursue BT/Openthing.

6 dropouts from 12.05 on 21.10 to 00.21 on 22.10.

Re: BB dropouts

5 dropouts today already.

Router rebooted. no effect.

PN, what can you see?

FWIW, before Oct 18th the connection was rock solid and nothing has been changed.

DSL stats show max d/l falling: was 21+ now 19+.

Edit at 16.34: several dropouts, last one 7 reconnect attempts, d/l SNRM gone from 3db to 5.3.

Edit at 17.54: stable for 80 mins.: DLM doing its work - but why the change since the 18th?

Re: BB dropouts

Re: BB dropouts

Have you tried looking at the router stats to see if there anything like high CRC errors and of course change the filter.

Re: BB dropouts

Yes, error rate nothing unusual and filter was new earlier this year.

I don't think it's internal, just want to know what PN is seeing on the line before I get BT/OR out.

Quiet line test (17070) is useless: says line is quiet but there are crackles continuously BUT those were there when the connection never dropped with the SNRM at 3db.

Re: BB dropouts

Another dropout!

This time down bandwidth has decreased to 17.764 (was 21.12) and down SNRM increased to 8.8* (was 5.3 yesterday, 3 before that).

* now 8.9 (5 mins later)

* now 9.1 (15m later)

It's not unknown for the speaker or microphone unit on phone handsets to develop a fault and produce a crackling sound - have you got an alternative handset you can try?

If that's ruled out it has to be line fault - loud crackles on my line, which still happen occasionally, invariably drop the BB connection.

Re: BB dropouts

Same on two DECT handsets and an analog one (that's slightly worse).

Checking DSL stats back to dec 15 I note that, apart from that when there was a 2 day BB dropout in the neigbourhood, the SNRM has always been c.6 - now 9.1.

Re: BB dropouts

Should have posted this earlier:-

The TG router event log shows a number of repeating events:-

1. Firewall icmp checks (fairly sure these aren't linked to disconnects because they don't exactly correspond time-wise)

2. "xDSL linestate down"

3. PPP link down (internet)

The last two, to me, look like a line fault.

(Another dropout whilst trying to post this!).

Re: BB dropouts

The disconnections look quite often but no pattern to them:

The mean time between errors on your line is lower than I'd like, that means your line is erroring every 1.5 minutes.

Upstream DSL Link Information Downstream DSL Link Information
Loop Loss: 10.0 18.0
SNR Margin: 7.7 9.0
Errored Seconds: 0 0
HEC Errors: 0
Cell Count: 0 0
Speed: 1178 17760

Maximum Stable Rate (KBPS): 19296 Fault Threshold Rate (KBPS): 15437
Mean Time Between Retrains (Seconds): 2134 Mean Time Between Errors Upstream (Seconds): 280
Indicative Line Quality: R Mean Time Between Errors Downstream (Seconds): 91

If there are crackles on the line, it's worth getting those fixed first with your phone provider (don't mention broabdand, just the noise) and then see how the broadband is performing after that.

Re: BB dropouts

Thanks, Chris, most helpful.

Something else just occurred to me. I was surfing the 'net via my iPad earlier - all OK and no dropouts. I booted my PC and as soon as the browser accessed the internet, maybe a second or two before, the connection dropped. This is not the first time that has happened. Odd.

Re: BB dropouts

connection just dropped again as trying to report frequent disconnection/ dns issues ( frustrating)

f8lure graph shows quite frequent packet loss

been using google DNS servers  ie 8.8.8.8 ( for sometime )

No reports of b/b issues on service status

these issues relate to my ADSL  service  in London
