Are there gateway problems this morning?

Anyone else experience intermittent problems connecting to some websites?
Sometimes it connects, other times it eventually times out.
It's not DNS as I've tried openDNS.  Tried two different PCs.
It looks like the issue is affecting certain gateways.
I can ping the websites I can't seem to load.
I've witnessed issues with www.bbc.co.uk, www.ebay.co.uk and others.
At the moment, I'm connected via pcl-ag05 for the past few minutes and all seems OK.  I think I had issues with ptw-ag02 to name just one gateway.

I did too.

Resorting to my T-Mobile 3G dongle helped accessing some websites, but not all.

Subject: Planned BT Network Maintenance - Wednesday 11th July Midnight-6.00am
When's this work happening?
Early hours of 11th July.
What does it affect?
Broadband connectivity.
How long will it take?
Up to six hours.
What does the work involve?
We've received notification from our suppliers about maintenance work that is scheduled to take place in the following areas.
London Faraday / Lytham / Dronfield
Although these are the areas we have been notified of, due to the nature of the broadband network these outages may affect customers nationwide.

Four ways I know of getting this information before it happens:
1) Sign up for status emails
2) Sign up for twitter support
3) Twitter forwarded via SMS to normal mobile phone
4) RSS Status reports
I have all 4 enabled.
Plus one that is general, but not usually up to date.
No links provided, easy enough to find, all part of the discovery process for anyone interested.

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

BT maintenance last night appeared to have impacted us at 2am and was completed by 3am according to our active PPP session graphing.
This was across all gateways and only on 21CN, with 20CN unaffected. All sessions were back online normally at 3.
Nothing else looks out of place that we can see.
Those that are impacted, are you able to provide a trace to the sites you are seeing problems with?

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

It appears to me that some other websites were affected because they routed through BT Faraday, not a Plusnet problem.
The problems were still there at 06:15, but cleared by 07:45, according to my history.

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

Afternoon folks,
We are investigating this but having difficulty pinning things down.
Everything we look at shows normal. We see normal volumes of network traffic, sessions look normal and available resources are no different to any other day.
One thing we have seen that does form a pattern, is that the majority of reports link to PCL gateways. This is not concrete though.
If anybody is seeing any problems, please do not reboot or gateway hop.
I would appreciate the following information from you as well.
The website you are having difficulty with - We would appreciate at least once specific site, rather than just any to allow specific testing.
A traceroute to the impacted site at that point in time.
Please describe the symptoms as best as possible. Slow speeds, no transfer at all, timeout messages.
So far the symptoms are scattered, so it's important we get as much detail as possible.

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

Yes I've been having problems, couldn't connect to anything, no site at all. Ran the diagnostics and it was alternating Fail on"ping prefferred DNS server"  also  "ping isp default gateway".
Sorry i did reboot and that has seemed to solve it so far.
These figures below don't look familiar but haven't looked at them for a long time
Rate:  5133    941
snr margin:  2.9  6.4
attenuation:  55.0  32.3
output power  13.0  0.0

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

Been having issues here this morning with various websites - issue here seems to be connections timing out/dropped packets.   Hopped over to a different account to check here after running a few tests (connection was basically impossible to use) but will try switching back to see if I still have problems.
Typical problem description is that the browser is just sitting there waiting for data - sometimes the initial page loads and it is hanging around waiting for images/scripts/etc but I have not had a successful page load so far.
Quick cut'n'paste of the initial traceroutes/ping I did when I was trying to see why the connection was playing up - as can be seen it does not seem to be having problems at any particular spot:
C:\Users\M>ping 8.8.8.8
Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=52
Request timed out.
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=52
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=53
Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
   Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 3, Lost = 1 (25% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
   Minimum = 17ms, Maximum = 18ms, Average = 17ms

Re: Are there gateway problems this morning?

I have had problems from ~ 9:00am until I rebooted @ ~ 11:30 - some pages started to load and then hung, others weren't even found , router log was saying that DNS look up failed even when I changed to Google DNS - couldn't get on to the forum to give any info. or check which gateway I was on.
Running fine now Smiley
