This a old thead, but it's the same thing so didn't bother starting new thread. On usertool website it says that Poplar exchange will be 21CN enable from around July. Is this wrong info or is my crappy exchange going to be upgraded?

Poplar is a tough one.
There are some very significant works going on in this exchange, based around both the 21CN PSTN services and also 21CN for our ADSL2+ products.
The most significant reason for the work is the exchange needs a lot more capacity full stop to meet the demands of all customers telephone line and other product requirements.
Poplar is recently closed for new orders on broadband and faults have been delayed. This was for the specialist removal of hazardous materials as a prerequirement for the physical build work in extending the main frame.
Infact, just reading, they have only just announced today that they re-opened the exchange on the 13th for orders and faults.
The deployment of 21CN will have a significant requirement on this work completing, so you will need to ask nearer to the time is my best guess.

There is one alternative to moving, if "something" was going to "happen" to the exchange, I am not suggesting YOU do it, of course not, especially with that asbestos about, but things happen. Fires, Floods and leaks especially.
If a few tiles were to become lose and water was to run in and ruin a load of kit, chances are they would replace it with smaller form factor kit.
Of course the tiles are likely to be where the asbestos is, you might want to raise it as a health and safety issue, is there a school nearby, you might be able to get a campaign going.
So in this daft comms world that OFCOM has created we now have to not only check we are in the right catchment area for schools but check with Sam about our exchange.
What I have a real problem with is when we all get hit with the 50p a month licence fee for 21cn infrastructure are they still going to pull this KWAP or will we finally see some investment. As far as I am concerned as soon as they start taxing the public like this, it becomes PUBLIC property as with the BBC.

I don't care if BT is private but as soon as a company gets a tax in our phone bill for public infrastructure, WE own that infractructure as much as we do the roads.

Interesting debate:
Should all roads, railways, waterways, gas, oil & water pipelines, electricity grids all be a states strategic assets even if some are leased out and / or maintained by a contractor.
Certain parts of the telecomm network too ?.
privatisation of railway infrastructure failed and is now back in government hands, Privatisation of London Underground infrastructure has failed too, at least half of it and the other half on the brink of failing.
Maybe we need to copy this topic to Chit Chat ?
