Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Hi lucerne,
I take it they were wired results rather than wireless? Are you getting this speed constantly or is it only certain times of the day?

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Hi Jo!
Wired!
On 28/2 throughput during evening was down to <2Mb/s; yesterday 29/2 (see above) 2.68Mb/s and a few minutes ago 4.17Mb/s per BT speed tester on current sync 7929kb/s.

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

fwiw, your FEC error count is somewhat high given your router was only up for 25 hours.  Also, the router clocked up a few CRCs.  I presume it is an interleaved connection.
Do you know what target noise margin is set on your line ?    If it is 3dB, perhaps it is too low a setting for your line.
It could be noise on the line, which would be at its worst from around 6pm onwards usually.
Have you tried connecting router to the test socket?

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Not test socket, but I have a hard wired extension with BT on it, ring wire disconnected. Last time I used the test socket it made no difference to sync and nothing has been disturbed since, Thus I would discount any happening with the wiring to cause a problem.
Anyways the question is not with sync but throughput. Sync is no problem ~9000 for a mid morning boot, which reduces to ~8000 if there is an evening resync. So it has been since some months ago, when BTo repaired a fault in the underground street cables.
Since then target SNR appears to be 3-3.5  and attenuation 47 until a week or so back, now 46. According to PN interleaving is on.
As to noise, it must be something recent and there is nothing around I can think of. We back on to New Forest, away from anything likely. Today16.20 18.10 download MyBBS is 6816.
The error rate. if on fastpath how could there be FECs?

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Fyi, if interleaving is ON, then the router will NOT be on Fast path.

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

'Twas what I meant: interleaving = FEC. fastpath = no FEC Grin

Have you got results from another speed tester as mybroadbandspeed is giving unreliable results at the moment.

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Hi Jo! Sorry no, but today PIngTest Net has 6.59 Mb/s.
TBH I am wondering if the slow speed was not out of some special circumstance that evening, that has remote chance of repetition.
For my connection the only additional use in the last week has been occasional use of IPlayer via HomePlugs: I don't think it was active at the time.
I will monitor the situation. Maybe we should put this thread on hold for the time being. I shall come back if something happens again.

Yes, do come back if necessary, just don't rely on mybroadbandspeed for the results at the moment Smiley

Found that out too - speedtest.net is working though.  Smiley

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

I prefer to use My Broadband Speed rather than Speedtest.net but  it's so erratic at the moment that it cannot be relied upon.  Any idea when it's likely to be fixed?

Re: Another case of SLOW in last 24 hours

Hi coastergrotto,
We're not exactly sure of timescales at the moment, and I don't believe it's a simple fix either, but as you can imagine it's something we are eager to resolve.
