Sorry, Annex M is only for ADSL2+

Meaning you (i.e. you, BT or its suppliers) only implement/allow it for ADSL2+  Wink
(and not ADSL2 which is covered by the standard)

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

Nothing at all has been set in stone, we're going to look at this after we've made 10mb upstream available to FTTC users. I'll pop back on here when we have more news.

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

Oh my days are getting better, i remember my first ever broadband from telewest! wow 512k download and 128k upload, jesus, it felt so mega i didnt leave my computer screen for days, the ye olde Napster of the day could actually upload quicker instead of some yank taking the micky outa me lol, but now hey hey, 2.5mb upload on the cards yippee! does this mean, we will have faster net than the yankie doodles?

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

You realise with Annex M that the increase in upstream speed is at the cost of reducing downstream speed.

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

Dependent on the speed you getting. For me it probably be 20 to 30% as my downstream speed is only 2mbps. But if you are getting 18mbps then the lose will be less in percentage terms..

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

It rather daft to be honest if getting 2.5 uploads speed but the downloads will also be reducing is sound rather ridiculous!

Re: Annex M (for ADSL2+) upstream

Annex M does not introduce any additional traffic carrying capacity on the line, the upstream/downstream division is simply moved from 138kHz to 276kHz so that some of the Annex A downstream tones are used for upstream instead. Inevitably that means downstream capacity/speed is reduced.
It is up to the user to decide which Annex best fits their usage requirement.

http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/upload_speeds.shtml
Line Speed depends on the type of broadband you have
# ADSL2/ADSL2+ Annex A: up to 1.3Mb/s**
# ADSL2+ Annex M: up to 2.5Mb/s***
** ADSL2+ circuits are provisioned at 448Kb/s by default. Speeds can be uncapped on request using the Help Assistant.
*** Annex M availability is dependent on line conditions and costs £10 per month exc.VAT. It is available on request using the Help Assistant.
