Is it possible just to get these messages binned and not bother me with notification?

Unfortunately not if you want Antivirus enabled. You could set up a local mail filtering rule to delete them on arrival.
Are you on the Postini trial yet? - I believe Postini is filtering out viruses without the sending of the notification although this was identified as a problem and was something we were looking at fixing.

thanks, I do have local filters but just trying to reduce the amount of stuff that gets to me. Not on Postini yet.
