Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

That would be great, thanks.
As I'm sure that you're aware, the impact figures would be the synchronisation / connection speed rather than the actual throughput you're able to get.

Info from PlusNet
Estimated line speed:
Not recorded (service activated before we introduced estimates).
Current line speed:
    1500

Did a BT speed test last night and this just clarified the 1.3Mbps speed I currently get.
ROUTER connection detail:
DSL Connection Details
DSL Line (Wire Pair): Line 1 (inner pair)
Protocol: G.DMT Annex A
Downstream Rate: 7616 kbpsUpstream Rate: 448 kbps
Channel: Interleaved
Current Noise Margin: 11.0 dB (Downstream) 24.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Attenuation: 33.0 dB (Downstream) 20.0 dB (Upstream)
Current Output Power: 19.7 dBm (Downstream) 11.9 dBm (Upstream)

Your PN profile is 1500 so this will limit the speed. when you did the BT speedtest what was the profile speed given?

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1280 kbps

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

Hiya,
I've just matched our profiling with that of BT's, so hopefully you should see an improvement shortly.
You may however need to reboot your router.

Hmmmm OK, so when did you change my profile? (as it's obvious from previous speed checks that it was higher). And how am I covered for recovering charges when I have had an apparent reduction in speed due to some re-profiling either deliberate or accidental by PN?
Regards

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

I'm afriad you wouldn't be entitled to a refund based upon a reduction in speed.  We sell an upto 8Mbps service, not one of a specified fixed speed.
I changed your profile when I made my post earlier.
Basically, it's been caused because BT have updated your profile in one of their systems (that can you see - as seen in your speedtest), but not their other one, which we're able to see.
Essentially, we'd have had no way of nothing that your line had been reprofiled.

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

OK, I do appreciate what you have done and appreciate that what you as an ISP do is probably industry practice but:
1.) if you sell an upto 8Mbps service, but as you mention the speed is profiled, then you and BT have an agreed profile for each customer - so even though I pay for upto 8Mbps you can honestly tell me what I am capable of getting and make me aware. Why do you profile? If I pay for upto 8Mbps - why isn't the PN profile 8Mbps and if BT can only provide/profile for example 1.5Mbps or 4Mbps - thats what I get - your profiling seems to be flawed as you have mentioned in your reply above.
2.) In this case for a period of time I got 1.5Mpbs due to lack of co-op/visibility between yourselves (PlusNet part of BT and BT be that wholesale or openreach). The only reason you have adjusted it is because of my leg work and investigation.
3.) I have had greater speeds in the past - so my reading into this is that, you both in the past profiled me higher, BT at some point profiled me down and you matched it - they profiled me up and you didn't match it?
If I was Mr Joe Bloggs at home I would be continue paying for a long time for less than potentially I could be getting and the ISP hides behind the 'upto' banner while if I am more technical I can get more value for money - hardly fair or good customer service?
Regards

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

I'm not saying that I agree with broadband being sold throughout the industry as an upto service.  Personally I'm not a massive fan.  However, we are charged by BT to supply an internet service.  It costs more or less the same for us to buy a fixed 512Kbps service as it does for us to by an upto 8128Kbps one.
I don't buy that this is necessarily our fault.  Due to a fault (bug, whatever) on BTs systems, we were unaware of a speed profile change as only you are able to see your new profile as were weren't via BBCR.
Don't get me wrong, I am truly sorry that your speeds were poorer during that time and I am glad that they are now sorted.

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

OK so the systems that enable you to profile are flawed as opposed to anything PlusNet do is flawed but ultimately I am a customer of PlusNet not BT.
It seems this is one of the injustice's 'the customer' has to put up with due to the small print we all agree to without question.
I'll post later my new speed - here hoping it's back to normal - cheers  Wink

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
Speed back to normal - thanks Jameseh for prompt attention and for sorting the 'problem'!
I just feel for the poor souls who don't realise they have slower speeds than they should have, and through no fault of their own - such is life.
Cheers

Thanks Smiley
Can you give me a shout once you're in the master/test socket and I'll run another line test?
Also - Have you tried using another router?  If we haven't sent you one, I'll be happy to do so in order to see whether or not it makes any difference.

Please find attached the information regarding my router stats etc from my current set up
I have a Belkin F6D4630-4
Here are the stats from the router

Re: Am I being restricted by BT?

Ok - That's massively better.
Your throughput will probably take 2-3 days to improve as you'll need to wait for the IP Profile to pick up again.

Are you happy to continue using the test socket.
If you want help from the regulars here in sorting out your internal wiring just shout up.
