Re: Adam, you have several PMs :)

I replaced the DG834Gv3 with a plusnet-branded TG585v7 for the hell of it.  The 585v7 syncs a bit slower than the '834, but the errors are far less.  Very solid indeed.
Only... it's got an odd tendency to just resync for no discernable reason a couple of times a day.
Take this morning for instance... it had been holding sync all night for over 12 hours... the snr margin had crept up from 6.5dB to 8dB as the light came up, the error counts were really low... and then whoosh... it seems to had a brain fade and possibly decided that it would get a higher sync by resyncing... which it did indeed.   The thing is... I don't need it to resync... it's never gonna get into a higher BRAS profile by doing so, so it might as well not bother.
I don't know if there is a way of turning this behaviour off.
I think that adding the banding from 1472Kbps - 3072Kbps might be a good idea after all, Jojo, if you don't mind.  That *might* stop it syncing too high in the mornings and therefore it won't need to resync again in the evening.
[Edit: Is the 585v8 more or less likely to stay synced than the 585v7?  Is it also broadcom based?  If so, would it be worth upgrading?]

Hi gyre,
I'm not sure that there's a great deal of difference between the v8 and the v7. It does have the broadcom chipset though. I'll put your profile change on my to do list.

Ok, Jojo.  I'll change one thing at a time.  Thanks in advance for doing the banding.  Smiley

Hi gyre,
Sorry I didn't have a chance to do it Friday but I'm on it now.

Hi gyre,
I've had that hard fixed to 1472Kbps - 3072Kbps for you now.

Re: Adam, you have several PMs :)

Oddly, the banding had some wierd interactions with my various routers.
The 2-wire 2700hg which was syncing before at 2900/3000 decided it needed some 'headroom' and started syncing at 2400 instead.  Mind you, the 2-wire connects as a ADSL2+ connection and can't be persuaded to drop down to G.DMT, whereas the other routers can all be forced to connect at the faster and more reliable G.DMT via tweaks.
The DG834Gv4 started syncing at 3080... but slowly dropped down over a period of a few days and sync to around 2400 too.
The DG834Gv3 decided after a few hours to work fine, but report a target SNR of 0.  Most odd.  Probably a bug in the firmware Smiley

Hi gyre,
That all sounds a bit odd. I couldn't shed any light on this I'm afraid.

Re: Adam, you have several PMs :)

Would you be terribly annoyed if I asked you to remove the banding?
It was definitely better without it.
Sorry Sad

HI gyre,
As I'm on to them I will do it for you but I can't keep changing it. It isn't a simple process and takes me quite some time to do it. I'll let you know when it's done.
