Re: ADSL2+ ?

We'll get that FAQ updated... It's ancient and wrong.

Re: ADSL2+ ?

Moving from 20CN to 21CN involves patch cables in the exchange being moved from a 20CN DSLAM to a 21CN MSAN so your connection will go down for a short time when the change is done.
Your router will then have to re-sync and if you check your router stats you should see a DSL Type/Connection Mode of ITU-T G.992.5 (or -3) instead of ITU-T G.992.1 (the last digit changes). Hopefully also a higher sync speed. Smiley

Re: ADSL2+ ?

I really appreciate all the replies on here, I am sorry I didn't know that the exchange had to be visited, and know everyone has to enjoy their Xmas, even BTOW engineers !!

Just checked and nothing has been done yet , as expected....
Link Information

Uptime: 2 days, 5:37:59
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.1
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8.128
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 697,30 / 1,99
Once again...thanks for answering ,and showing how clever you are, and how dumb I am !!!
Looking forward to a little speed boost !!
Cheers

Re: ADSL2+ ?

Those bandwidth values look promising for speeds on 21CN. What downstream attenuation does your stats show (a few lines down the list).
Don't worry about not knowing things, we all learn by asking. You are doing fine providing useful information that helps others to provide (hopefully helpful) responses. Smiley

Re: ADSL2+ ?

I am currently getting good speeds David - However the guy on the helpline and BT reckon it will only be 7 meg after upgrade !!
Can't find the downstream attenuation stats anywhere  ?Huh

Are those figures any good ?
Don't know what attenuation is ? and if my figures are good or bad ?

Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN

The line I've highlighted in red gives the attenuation with SN Margin (another important parameter) below it.
Using the Kitz calculator for that attenuation I'd expect your downstream sync speed/bandwidth to increase to about 13000kbps on ADSL2+. So a decent improvement.
Since the Chipset Vendor ID (Remote) in those stats shows as IFTN it looks to me that you could already be on 21CN but with an ADSL1 service. Perhaps the hardware move has already completed, just awaiting BT and Plusnet to make administrative changes to your account. If the automated systems don't follow this through, hopefully Plusnet DCT staff will follow it up on Friday.

Re: ADSL2+ ?

David..you are a very clever Guy...
13 meg would be fantastic !!...
Just had an email from Plusnet saying my changes would be completed on the 6th Jan....
That will be fantastic !!
Once again thanks for all your help !!

Re: ADSL2+ ?

Plusnet said I would see an increase to about 7 Meg
Are these Conservative estimates ?

Re: ADSL2+ ?

That figure seems conservative to me. If you put your phone number into the BT Broadband Availability Checker what speed estimate does that give on ADSL2+?
It would also be useful to check present speeds using the BT Performance Tester. Just make sure nothing else is running, don't restart the router or your PC, nor turn off antivirus or how you connect to the router. Is that wired (preferable) or wireless?
After running the initial test, click the further diagnostics button at the bottom of the page then enter your phone number. The 3 or 4 lines in the framed boxes are the useful bits.
