ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on this. I have been on the 21cn network since February of last year (2009) and on the whole I have had no problems with the connection apart from a blip last July when my router (an Intertex ix68) kept locking up on a Tuesday/Wednesday at around 12:00. I mention this because of the pattern and it was fixed by leaving it disconnected for half an hour. Otherwise it has been fine. I synch at around 15100 to 16400 downstream and around 950 to 1030 upstream. Last Sunday the connection died around 10:40 and at first I had erratic connections but basically the connection finally went and at first I thought it was my router as my 7year old ADSL router (an intertex ix66) still connected albeight at the non 21cn speed. The adsl2+ router was telling me that it was trying to find the remote modem but not succeeding.
The following day I borrowed a Draytek Vigor 2800VG router from a friend. This was also an Adsl+2 router and it sort of exhibited the same problem. It tried to connect but failed. This router gave a bit more information then mine and what it was showing was that it was handshaking, discovering and then training and sometimes it would go green and connect but only for about 5 seconds and before my credentials were authenticated it would drop the connection and go through the same process again. Eventually it did connect but it failed to login with my credentials. I then tried the bt_test_user@plus.net login, the Draytek router duly connected. I then tried my own credentials on the same router and it worked. I then did the same on my router and got the same result with the bt login, it worked. However when I tried my login credentials the modem connected which was a start but I could not get a connection out onto the wan. After numerous factory resets and many other things etc. I forced my router to try to work out what kind of an internet service I had using a function from within the router. It worked it out and displayed exactly what the router was already set to except this time I had connectivity to the internet. The only difference was that the PPP connection was ethernet as opposed to atm which is what it had been before. I played around with changing this and found that the connection appeared to be more stable on PPPoe. This may have been a coincidence. Anyway, on the whole it worked for all of last week. This morning at around 06:40 the router went again, same kind of thing no wan connectivity at all and the modem constantly stating it is trying to handshake but cannot find the remote modem. I tried my old router and again no problem it connected. I have tried forcing my adsl2+ router to behave like a bog standard adsl router but still nothing. Chances are that like last week it will start to work at some point tomorrow afternoon. I can't see how it can be my router as I have replicated it with another one I have also changed the filters. The fact that the old router connects seems to suggest a router problem but the fact that it has happened on a Sunday again leads me to believe something is going on at the exchange. It's kind of following a pattern like last time disconnecting at around the same time on a given day except this time leaving the router disconnected for half an hour is not fixing the problem.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
Lou

Re: ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Hi Lou,
Just to be clear then, you have *no* problems whatsoever when you use an ADSL1 router however multiple ADSL2+ routers you have tried have all exhibited periodically connectivity problems?

I can't think of a logical reason as to why this would be happening Undecided It would normally be indicative of a  BBVR fault where BT Wholesale aren't pointing your circuit to our platform correctly. If this was the case though, I wouldn't expect the problem to be intermittent. Neither should there be any difference between ADSL1/ADSL2+
Here are your RADIUS logs from over the weekend, quite a few disconnects on Sunday:

Re: ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, on the whole I have no problem with my adsl1 router. The majority of disconnections yesterday were to do with me seeing if the adsl2+ router would connect, apart from around 20:30 when the adsl1 router did the same thing and lost it's wan connection. Rebooting it fixed the problem. I am going to try and get hold of another adsl2+ router from another source and test that. I will try my adsl2+ router again in about 2 hours to see if it will connect as that is about the time it came back last week.
Thanks
Lou

Re: ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Bob,
Here is an update. Yesterday I was in discussions with the router manufacturer in Sweden and they advised me to switch the adsl2+ router back on and leave it on for about 10 minutes and then to send them the sytem log. It was on for about 14 minutes and just as I was about to switch it off the wan link came up and sure enough it was working. I subsequently rebooted it a few times to see if it would come back up and it did, albeight taking longer than usual to find the wan. It would normally be up in just under a minute where it was now taking about 2 to 3 minutes. I am leaving it on for the moment as support say they will be monitoring the line. I will see if on Sunday I get the same problem.

Re: ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Bob,
I wonder if you could have a look at the radius logs and tell me in the connection went down (twice) at at around 10:45 today. I did not lose the wan link but the router stated that the line link had gone down with the following messages.
ADSL Opstate = 0
ADSL: local severely errored frames error
ADSL: local cell Delineation I error
ADSL Opstate = 16
line(line): Link down.
Thanks.

Re: ADSL2+ routers refuse to connect

Sorry for the delay in replying to this, there was indeed a disconnect at the time you mentioned on the 26th, as shown by the logs provided in the ticket on your account.
The last update said you were going to monitor things, have things improved or are you still having issues?
