ADSL2 question

As I have posted before I have a problem Exchange Only line of about 3.5 km length.
I now have more modem routers than Dabs Direct.
In an attempt to provide a drop free BB I have shelled out for a Billion 7800N which uses a Broadcom chipset and is generally accepted as being a solution for longish lines.
When I set this up in ADSL2+ mode it syncs at 6655 kb/s (capped) and adopts a noise margin of around 6 dB which starts to fall at around 4 pm (well before nightfall). By 7 pm it is down below 2 dB and by 11 pm it is hovering just above 0 dB.
Last night at just after 2 am it dropped rapidly over about 15 minutes to about minus 1.5 dB when it disconnected and reconnected at 8.2 dB at about 6200 kb/s. This morning it was back to 6 dB NM at 6200 kb/s.
The noise problem has got gradually worse over the last few years.
I have now forced the router to connect only at ADSL2 (annexe L) and from previous experiance this provides a disconnect free link.
What I would like to know is if the IP profile on the 21CN Ranmoor exchange is still set at 88.2% of sync even if only connected at ADSL2 ?
Also if the 6655 kb/s cap will ever remove itself and let me sync at a higher speed. When PN removed the cap a few weeks ago it re-appeared within days but I was on ADSL2+ at the time and getting disconnects each night ?
When I ran full Routerstats on a Thompson router some time ago it showed very little use of the ADSL2+ bins above 1.1 Mhz so it looks as if ADSL2 only is the way to go forward.
As that guy on the telly used to say "What does the Team Think  Wink

Re: ADSL2 question

Good old Ranmoor exchange, I used to be connected to that one when I lived in the same area Smiley
With the sync speed currently at 6653kbps and the line rate at 5484 I'd say that looks in the right region. Although they're not to a significant level I'm noticing a few disconnections, were any of these swapping routers or powering them down for any reason?

Re: ADSL2 question

Yes the daytime disconnections were due to me trying different ADSL modes on my new router.
The 3 disconnections at just after 2 am look suspicious, there's nothing happening at Oldgeezer Towers at this time.
Will I still get an IP of 88.2% of sync if I stay on ADSL2 ?
It's now almost 5.30 pm and I'm still at 5 dB NM. If I was on ADSL2+ it would be down around 1 dB by now.
Can you give my PN profile a nudge towards the BT one of 5.87 ?
Thanks.

Re: ADSL2 question

You will get the IP Profile of 88.2% on ADSL1, ADSL2, or ADSL2+. It's from being on 21CN, the adsl mode doesn't matter.

Thanks for that information.
If the PN IP profile  ever catches up with the BT IP then I shall be sorted with download speeds of around 5.5 Mb/s.
According to Routerstats Lite the connection still dropped last night from a NM of around 3.5 and instantly reconnected but it did occur about an hour earlier than usual at 1 am.
That doesn't bother me, in the land of nod at that time, but I suppose it might mean that the 6655 cap stays on.
