6m down, 380k up...I guess I'm still capped at the plusnet end...

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

Hi,
I thought I'd just append to this thread of yours as I am having a similar issue to you with similar kit.
Today I received a message from Plusnet saying my 21CN regrade was now complete and I should reboot router to get new, faster line speed.  I thought this meant I was alone on ADSL2+ but I'm guessing I'm still on ADSL1.  (I had asked for ADSL2+ upgrade a few weeks ago you see.)
Anyway I have a Draytek Vigor 2820n router and like you, mine will only connect as G.DMT, not ADSL2+.  Line speed appears to be the same  (I can't run the broadband checker speed test tool as it's stopped working for me today - probably my Firefox 3 or something has been upgraded and stopped that working.)
Anyway, as your Draytek router is now connecting OK using ADSL2+ I assume that my router should work on ADSL2+ too and the reason it's only working on ADSL1 currently is because the Plusnet end is still set to be ADSL1.
Plusnet, can you confirm that that is the case?
So, finally, what do I need to do to get to ADSL2+?  Apart from ask, do I need to go through a 10 day period of 'training'?  What does this mean/entail?
Finally, my current connection details are this:
> adsl status
 --------------------------- ATU-R Info (hw: annex A, f/w: annex A) -----------
  Running Mode            :    G.DMT       State                : SHOWTIME
DS Actual Rate          :  8128000 bps   US Actual Rate       :   448000 bps
DS Attainable Rate      :  8128000 bps   US Attainable Rate   :  1248000 bps
DS Path Mode            :        Fast    US Path Mode         :        Fast
DS Interleave Depth     :        1       US Interleave Depth  :        1
NE Current Attenuation  :       15 dB    Cur SNR Margin       :       11  dB
  DS actual PSD           :    19. 9 dB    US actual PSD        :    11. 3   dB
  ADSL Firmware Version   : 232201_A
 -------------------------------- ATU-C Info ---------------------------------
Far Current Attenuation :        9 dB    Far SNR Margin       :       29  dB
  CO ITU Version[0]       : 00004946       CO ITU Version[1]    : 0000544e
  DSLAM CHIPSET VENDOR    : < IFTN >
>
I'm about half a mile from the BT exchange, pretty much straight up a straight road.  So, given that and my current SNR and attenuation values, will ADSL2+ give me much faster speeds than I am already getting?
Thanks for any answers in advance!

Or 15meg, like me. There's nothing better than seeing the ADSL2+ coming up on the status page...
Good luck in the ADSL casino....

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

Oh how I'd love to see ADSL2+ come up on the status page.    Cheesy
Anyway, I got the speed checker working (I think it was my IcedTea Java plugin for Firefox 3 - I just switched to the Sun Java/JRE plugin instead and it's working again)
So, my current slow-ish speed is:
Today 23:15   4972 kbps (622kB/s)   377 kbps (47.1kB/s)
Would be nice to have a faster UPLOAD speed, for VoIP video phone calls etc.  Did your UPLOAD speed increase much?

@Will177, You might want to look at this thread http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,81878.0.html , might be a similar problem...

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

@MrPercent, you're on a 13000 profile our side now, so should be much better. Smiley
@Will177, you're on ADSL1 on 21CN, we're submitting a regrade now, will complete tomorrow. You should get a very good speed with those stats.

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

@Mand Thanks for the info! Smiley  I just received a message saying Plusnet will *manually* regrade me to ADSL2+.  (I guess this means someone needs to physically touch a piece of hardware in the exchange, or that BT won't do it automatically so Plusnet need to do it manually?)
Anyway, great news, thank you, I can't wait. Smiley
And what is Mr%'s 13000 bit all about?  Do I get a 13000 thingy too?  Smiley
Thanks!

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

The 13000 is the speed at which his router is in sync with the exchange, we won't know what yours will be until the order completes but as Mand says we suspect it'll be pretty good. The best you can expect on any line is around 20000 - but that needs to be a very short (i.e. close to the exchange), very good quality line.

Re: ADSL or ADSL2??

Well, I didn't even have to reboot my router, I came home to find it had switched over to ADSL2+ all by itself with no rebooting required:

Checker says:
Today 23:12   16200 kbps (2.03MB/s)   746 kbps (93.3kB/s)
