After weeks of low speed and multiple disconnections a few weeks ago, The third BT/OR engineer did some proper line tests and told me that these frequent faults were usually because of old/unreliable equipment in the exchange. He did a "Lift and Shift" changed my line form the Cabinet to exchange and put me on different gear in the exchange. Brilliant ! Almost a month of full speed connection with only one drop.
Then I can only suppose another engineer fixed someone else's problem by nicking my good line to cab and exchange equipment. Over the last month it has been disconnecting several times a day. My once good speed had gradually fallen as the disconnections register on the auto quality/speed system.
I was seriously thinking of upgrading to FTTC but I am put off by the unreliability of the infrastructure. My village has ad around 200-300 new houses built over the last 15 years with more being added each year. The exchange was built years before and is obviously at full capacity. Thus when a line fix is done for one it just moves the problem. The FTTC cabinet is fairly new and while the route from there to my house must include the old cabinet I suppose the part to the exchange may be more reliable. Yet I see many similar problems in the Fibre forum section!
I am beginning to fear that the only answer is via the mobile network such is the state of the BT/OR network.
(If you check in the BT forums you will see all the same complaints as are here. (Yes we all know Plusnet is owned by BT)
BTW I am now down to around 0.4 up 5.5 down throughput. With disconnection 3 times a day on average.
I have just added a Belkin mains smoother to the router supply.
Meanwhile can someone please run radius on my account and get the actual figure of disconnections.
Many thanks.

Thanks for your post @rpaco I'm sorry to see the connection problems have returned. Looking at your connection I can see there were a lot of drops earlier in the week, but things appear to have stabilised now.
Line tests are showing that your connection has stabilised because the software at the exchange is pushing your speed down in order to maintain stability so there's definitely a problem somewhere.
If the issue is the exchange equipment then if you were to go onto fibre, you shouldn't experience the same issues as in theory when you're on fibre, anything which impacts the service is between the cabinet and your property.
If you've carried out the usual troubleshooting steps like try the master socket and another router if you can, could you reply to this ticket I've raised, with your availability for an engineer to visit so we can investigate this further?
I'm taking this on personally moving forward so if we progress the fault and the issue isn't fixed after the 1st engineer in light of the issues you've had previously I'll be happy to get this escalated before potentially another engineer visit.
Apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Hi thanks, I am a little puzzled as not all the drops are showing on the radius chart.
Here is the latest page of my modem log, WAN only.
I will try the Plusnet hub2 again (BT hub 5) but think this is a step down from my current BT hub6A.
A lot of the disconnects claim to be user disconnect or Restart configuration change!
I will reply to the ticket after trying the other modem/router, have to find it first!
This shows all events that have taken place on your BT Smart Hub since the last time it was reset.

Thanks for getting back to me @rpaco
There are some types of drops that our radius logs don't pick up on, although that's more common on fibre. We don't see that very often on a standard broadband connection.
Let me know your troubleshooting goes.

Plugged into master socket using plug in filter/splitter as the official new (fitted last summer on first engineer visit ) dual output master socket with integral filter seems a bit loose on one side.
New DSL drop this morning 03:32 when only our cats may have been awake:

Do BT/OR reboot the lines every night?
Further
Have checked with my neighbour on same BT pole and they are on BT fibre getting 50Mbps with no problems. So I will look at changing to them. I have BT phone and the BT phone/FTTC package is I think cheaper than yours inc line rental. I make very few phone calls and then normally within the weekend when they are free. Otherwise have 1p mobile which is v cheap.

Thanks for getting back to us @rpaco
It’s not uncommon for Openreach to carry out maintenance in the early hours of a morning so the drops then may just be down to that.
If your neighbour is having no issues on fibre then that hopefully suggests you won’t either assuming that the issue with standard broadband is the exchange equipment not your phone line.
If you’re thinking of leaving, I’d recommend calling our customer options team on 0800 013 2632 to see what we can do for you in terms of a deal as the fibre service you’d get from BT will be similar to us apart from the router we offer although it looks like you’ll be using your own router anyway, and I’m sure we’d be able to tempt you with a good deal if you bring your phone over to us.
