ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

The Belkin 5633 is listed as being OK for the new upgrade on your site - I have the Belkin F5D7632-4
It says ADSL2+ on it.
I have been promised an upgrade within 5 weeks from 4th September. I am supposed to be on upto 8 mb at the moment but used to have 5.5 before Plusnet sent BT to "fix" my phone line. Now I get 4.5! Profile was 6.5 now 5.5.
Will I need to do anything to the 7632 router and how?
Will I get more speed - nearby street gets 11 mb with talk talk on an up to 20?
Sorry if I should not have started a new thread but I can't find how to post on the right one wherever it is - first time poster and OAP!

If you could post the router line stats, >  http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php#4
and a copy of the result from the BT performance tester, >  http://speedtester.bt.com/ ;

Hi there,
It looks like the upgrade has gone through and everything seems to be working as normal, so it looks like you won't need to do anything Smiley
Having said that it would be well worth posting your stats as Apprentice recommends, we'll be able to see what's going on with the line and how it's performing and offer much more detailed advice.

Re: ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

Hi
Thanks Apprentice
I have been away from my PC this afternoon.
Here are the router stats:
Status:

Configured Current
Line Status --- SHOWTIME
Link Type --- Fast Path
 [Go Top]
Data Rate:

Stream Type Actual Data Rate
Up Stream 448 (Kbps.)
Down Stream 6240 (Kbps.)
 [Go Top]
Operation Data / Defect Indication:
Operation Data
Operation Data Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 6 dB 22 dB
Attenuation 41 dB --- dB
Defect Indication
Indicator Name Near End Indicator Far End Indicator
Fast Path FEC Correction 0 0
Interleaved Path FEC Correc 41888 1434
Fast Path CRC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path CRC Error 476 101
Loss of Signal Defect 0 2
Fast Path HEC Error 0 0
Interleaved Path HEC Error 380 57
 [Go Top]
Statistics:

Received Cells 2527556
Transmitted Cells 3838796

Went into the router again and there was a firmware update available. Now done.
After this BT Speedtester showed:
Download speed achieved during the test was - 4.55 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :6.18 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 5 Mbps

Matt - the IP profile is still 5 mb so I'm not going to get even 6.18 unless the profile is upped, never mind 16 mb!
Ancient wiring and old BT master socket (no test socket) won't help but Plusnet want £130 to fix it

Re: ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

If it didn't do an upstream speed test and looking at your upstream sync of 448kbps there is a fair chance that you are still on 20CN

Re: ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

Thanks Oldjim
I'm not surprised it is still on old 20CN, Plusnet did say 5 weeks, but Matt seemed to think it was OK anyway.
Although the BT tester does not show upstream, it is about 380 on Broadbandspeedchecker.
Seems to me though that if I only get 4.55 on a 7.25 line now I'm not likely to get anywhere near 16 after 21CN is done! Especially with a line profile of 5.
I know they will say "Raise a support ticket"! Been there lots of times; usual standard answers about plug into the test socket (which I have not got), change all your stuff, etc etc. Last time it took ages and a phone call to get someone to accept there was noise on the line before they sent an engineer who found a dodgy wire up the street. That time I had gone down from 5.5 mb to 0.8. After it was fixed noise gone and finally up to 4.5 or so. My year's contract with Plusnet will be up soon, don't want to leave, but wish they would take problems on an individual basis and not trot out standard answers - that's why I left Virgin!

Re: ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

Putting an attenuation of 41dB into Kitz's calculator http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php gives an estimated 20CN sync speed of 6688kbps. Your sync speed is below that but at the original 6240kbps would just have achieved an IP Profile of 5.5Mbps.
Unfortunately the new value of 6176kbps will give an IP Profile of 5.0Mbps which is where you are now.
Migrating to 21CN is likely to improve sync speed by about 2000kbps to say 8200kbps but using the 88.2% rule that would give an IP Profile of 7.2Mbps, a significant improvement on your current value. If error rates are low enough to allow a downstream target noise of 3dB you might get a little more. Sadly it looks like over 10Mbps is optimistic. Sad

Re: ADSL 2+ Belkin model F5D7632-4

Thank you, Spraxyt (you obviously understand all this more than me) and everyone else for your help.
Seems to me that 2mb extra would be good, though the hype email suggests more.
Meanwhile, if someone can get me new wires and a NTE5 box with a test socket (oh sorry, that is illegal according to BT!) for less than £130, I could move my router or even fit an i-plate,
