Re: ADSL 1 or ADSL 2 ?

Your router will tell you
Quote
Uptime:  0 days, 2:18:35
DSL Type:  ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:  1.231 / 23.057
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:  2,85 / 15,72

G992.5=ADSL2+
G992.3=ADSL2
G992.1=ADSL
or the router could report it as G.DMT2+ or G.DMT2 or ADSL2+ etc.

Thank you itsme
this is what I found
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.3
might be room for some speed improvement

Re: ADSL 1 or ADSL 2 ?

Depends on your line. At 62dB attenuation ADSL2 is preferable to ADSL2+  Wink
Plusnet FTTC (Sep 2014), Essentials (Feb 2013); ADSL (Apr 2009); Customer since Jan 2004 (on 28kb dial-up)
Using a TP-Link Archer VR600 modem-router.

Re: ADSL 1 or ADSL 2 ?

The router will automatically negotiate ADSL2 if it finds the higher frequencies introduced with ADSL2+ are too attenuated to carry any data. This is simple physics not something BT or Plusnet are imposing.

Re: ADSL 1 or ADSL 2 ?

In theory, ADSL2 is always as good as or better than ADSL1.

Re: ADSL 1 or ADSL 2 ?

As I understand it, in theory yes it should be. But in practice we find ADSL is sometimes the best of the three, though on long lines ADSL2 normally is best.
It will be a combination of factors I expect. Simple length with a clean line seems to favour ADSL2 of the three at the 3Mbps-6Mbps range, but only by a couple of hundred kbps over ADSL2+ at 6Mbps. Perhaps on noisy lines ADSL finds it easier to cope rhan ADSL2 does? After all although they are different protocols they use the same frequency ranges and, without knowing much more than that in the technical sense, I wouldn't be surprised to find a trade-off somewhere for the extra possible speed of ADSL2.
