Have you done anything to make such a change, e.g. changed filters or unplugged anything from the line? I don't think there's a fault present if the speed stays the same, unless it had dropped dramatically beforehand.
If not, the best times to resync in order to get a higher profile are generally around midday (I've seen 10am - 3pm on this forum in a few places). Later in the day tends to be less likely to show any increase.

Have checked router stats and noise margin is 12db
Could this be the cause of reduced speed at Router - is this too high ? and if so how can i reduce it.
thanks in advance for any advice

Have just disconnected the bell wire from my master socket and the connection rate at router has shot up to 8727kps
Does anyone know why this might be - noise on the line ?
I assume i will have to wait a few days for my profile to increase

The Bell wire is an unbalanced circuit and act as an aerial. Any noise picked up on it gets feedback to one of the wires of the speech/adsl pair.
