Re: 9225 kps at Router but only 6400Kps speedtest at computer - Why?

This is because your profile is currently set at 7000, have a read of this page for more information on how profiles work. http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/adsl2plus_guide.shtml
If your router continues to connect at 9225 then that profile will increase to 8000 and the speeds you see on speedtest sites will also increase too.

Thanks Chris
Should my modem continue at 9225kps will my speeds increase automatically to 8000kps and if so  how long would this normally take ?
thanks

Re: 9225 kps at Router but only 6400Kps speedtest at computer - Why?

Your speed will not go up to 8000kbps, that figure is the profile. At best actual speeds are likely to be 7300-7500kbps because of transfer management overheads (between the end points, you and the destination), and congestion.
The profile change should be automatic, taking 3 to 5 days. The change is done by the BT wholesale DLM. Sadly in the downward direction the DLM reacts within 75 minutes. Sad

Re: 9225 kps at Router but only 6400Kps speedtest at computer - Why?

As spraxyt says, as long as your router is connected at that speed the profile should increase with 72 hours, however the speed you actually see will be slightly under the profile due to line overheads.

Hello, I have just been upgraded to ADSL2 and sync at 15000.
Where do I look too see what profile I am on?

Run the BT speedtester at http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ to get BT's IP Profile setting.
Check the value shown as 'Current line speed' in the Member Centre here to verify BT have passed that onto Plusnet.

BT's IP Profile is correct for your sync speed. However the Plusnet Member Centre value hasn't caught up yet; that can take 24 hours.
Hopefully a staff member will see these posts and give it a nudge if the automatic-update process hasn't done the necessary by tomorrow.

Re: 9225 kps at Router but only 6400Kps speedtest at computer - Why?

HI - a week on from my original post and still the IP profile is the same at 7000kps (so much for 3-5 days)
Ive had a steady and consistent  9224kps at my router during this period.
Can someone tell what i can do to get the IP profile raised to 8000kps
thanks
see latest BT test below

Download speedachieved during the test was - 6176 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :9224 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 444 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 14.49:22.86:62.65 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

@jawson
Your profile on our side is now set to 13000 and matches the IP profile.

Re: 9225 kps at Router but only 6400Kps speedtest at computer - Why?

Thanks Chris
Im sure this may help
Ive just checked the BT speedtest again and its still showing 7000kps
How to i get BT to raise their IP profile to 8000kps - this does not appear to have occurred automatically and sounds like the issue
Sorry if i sound a bit fick but im not really an expert in these areas
thanks

I'm trying to figure yours out at the moment! We've not had a profile update for a while.

After speaking to our faults team, they're willing to raise this as a fault to get the profile corrected but they want to monitor the connection until tomorrow (so leave your router on).
