80/20 or still 40/10

I've been on FTTC 40/10 for a while - in fact since the beta and BT speedtest always reported IP profile of 38.72.
I asked for the 80/20 upgrade, which I believe was supposed to have been completed on 23rd.
Someone in Plusnet kindly set their IP profile to 78 after I raised a ticket, but the BT one is till showing 38.
Can someone confirm that I've actually got the new profile? and if I have, why is so relatively slow? before the 'upgrade' I was able to get between 25 &  35Mbps and now its gone up a tiny bit to 37 - not quite a 'doubling' of the speed that I was expecting Cry
thanks in advance
Neil

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Reading around the forums you're not the only one seems to be the case with quite a few people.
Yesterday I was told i was given a half upgrade, the download speed had to be fixed, but the upload speed and usage have upgraded.
Sadly the download speed is nowhere near bt's estimate despite plusnet raising my profile (and i'm sure the estimate is correct to + or - 1Mbit)
What you'll find is whatever the bt speed test says your ip profile is, that's what your plusnet profile will fall to within a day.
So it's clearly bt's profile that needs raising.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

If you weren't getting the full speed on the 40/10 service then it's very unlikely you'll see a significant improvement when going to the up to 76Mb product. It's certainly not a doubling unless you were achieving the very top speeds previously.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

So, do i raise the BT IPProfile @38.72 as a problem with Plusnet or BT?

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

There isn't a great deal that could be done really, you're already getting speeds above the estimate for your line and as I've said, unless you get the full whack on 40/10 you're unlikely to see much (if any) increase on up to 76Mb. If you like you'd need to raise a fault to us (BT aren't your supplier so can't do anything to help you directly) and we'll do a line test, however please don't expect great increases as the estimate for your line certainly doesn't suggest that.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

I was just hoping that going to the up to 76 would at least have given more than up to 38. a 5% increase in performance .
Ah well, 5% more for £2 less

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Think i got the wrong end of the stick thought you meant bt ip profile given by the bt speed test. http://www.speedtester.bt.com/
However if you meant 38Mb is the max you can get on fibre then there's nothing more that can be done.
https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
Check to see your estimated bt figure if it's 38Mb then that's what you'll get, if its more then going through the same issue as me.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Looks like we are in this together.
the Bt availability says:-
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 33.8Mbps and upstream line speed of 5.9Mbps.
which i was happily getting on the 40/10 product. The latest BT Wholesale speed test says that the Ip Profile is 38.72 - which if i remember correctly is the same as it was for the 40/20 product
BUT BT also says it is accepting orders for Infinity2 at my exchange - but what is the point if the improvement is so minimal

Hi gwillym,
I've done some digging on this for you.  Your line speed estimate is 33.8Mbps.  Your current line sync rate is 40.0Mbps.  This means that your line is currently maxed out on the 40/2 product and that it is likely you will see an improvement.  It's impossible to quantify the improvement before your line is activated for 80/20.  I would not expect you to hit anywhere near the full 80Mbps but you should see something.  I have therefore placed an order to enable 80/20 tomorrow.
Let us know how you get on.  Wink

Alex, that's excellent thanks. Cheesy
I was under the impression that I had already requested the upgrade - on the first day that you announced it!.
Lets see what tomorrow brings!

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

All I've had out of the upgrade is the usage allowance upgraded,my upload is stil 1.7 iwas at Lear expecting this to rise to the 5.5mb that bt quoted,my neighbours arein the same boat yet a mile down the road(further away from the exchange ) they been given 80/20 to start with as it's just being installed.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Alex, thanks for your efforts,  BT profile now reports 61.97 down and 20 up.
Actually getting about 35 down - looks like I've got rubbish copper but at least I'm getting over 12 up - which is great.
thanks for your efforts.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Neil, our profile might need updating to match the new speeds you're getting. I'll take a look when I get into the office.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

Looks like the profile updated shortly after 7am on our side this morning. so next time you disconnect/reconnect you should get the better speeds.

Re: 80/20 or still 40/10

done the disconnect/reconnect.
Looks like its my copper that's the bottleneck. BT profile is 62 down, 20 up.
Actual performance from Bt Wholesale tester is 32 down 12 up.
thanks for your efforts
