Had fibre installed yesterday with the netgear router, all going well so far I think.
We were told we should see around 28mb down but so far we are seeing around 20-22mb, does this sound correct?
How long is the training period on the line?
How can I check what the PN IP profile is so I can compare it to the BT one?
My BT fiber modem runs smoking hot, is thatt fairly normal?
Can't think of anything else at the moment!
Thanks!

Training period I understand is 10 days.... though I'm not sure if that's just the standard line fed to us by CS, or that there is some truth in it. I suspect with shorter lines the training needed is negliable, and the effects of it tiny.
Log to the PN portal, selecting conneciton settings, and then High Speed Broadband, the profile is shown last on the items there (along with line estimates). If the speed you are seeing is close to what you had previously with ADSL, the profile at PN's end is the most likely cause.
The BT modem running hot is very common. Ensure it's wall mounted (it should be), and clear of blockages, radiators, direct sunlight etc. etc. Even so, posts here have suggested a pretty high mortality rate.

Wallmount the fibre router? The BT engineer never mentioned anything about wall mounting it

The BT engineer should have done this for you when he did your install.
If not, I highly recommend you do it yourself, as you'll see the vents on it are likely to be more effective when mounted that way, IMHO.

Still, if the fibre modem should be wallmounted by the BT engineer then I'm not very happy that he didn't even mention it

1) BT doesn't have a consistent policy
2) He wasn't trained correctly, or the training doesn't cover it
3) He couldn't be bothered/disagreed with the training
Your call as to wether you try and find out which above, and get that rectified.... but if I were in your shoes, I'd be popping it on the wall myself.
