21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

when i 1st had upto 8mb I actually had 8mb now i have sync of half that 😞 My exchange is supposedly due to go to 21cn between Feb and April.
Below are my stats should I expect any increase in speed or will the change be worthless in terms of speed. Should I just wait and pin my hopes on FTTP or FTTC.
Type Fast Path
  Status Show Time
  Downstream Upstream
  Data Rate (kbps) 4384 448
  Noise Margin (dB) 14.5 25.0
  Attenuation (dB) 43.1 21.0
  Output power(dbm) 19.4 12.3

The question to answer and resolve is why your default noise margin has apparently increased to 15dB

hi Oldjim,
is this something pn can sort via a ticket or does it suggest a issue with my line? currently in the master socket with no bell wire.

When you use the phone, is it clear with no background noise?
How often do you reboot your router?
Do you have other extensions in use for phones etc?

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

The question is whether the noise margin increased when you weren't in the master socket or still had the bell wire and has subsequently stuck there.
Also have you tried the test socket to see if the speeds improve

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

bell wire was removed before we had upto 8mb.
we have no phone extensions and the router has not rebooted for one to two weeks.

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

What does the router say for the length of time the ADSL has been connected?
When did you see the drop off in speed? Does it correspond to anything being done with something electrical (e.g. putting up the Christmas tree lights)?
The reason for the higher target noise margin will be either that you have had a number of disconnections where the line has dropped and immediately reconnected (you may not be aware that it happened), or you are getting a lot of errors on the line. In both cases the BT system will push up the noise margin to try to stabilise the line which will give you a lower sync speed.

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

A slight contradiction
"we have no phone extensions"
"in the master socket with no bell wire"
If there are wires attached to the front plate you have phone extensions
If there aren't how did you remove the bell wire
If there are wires attached to the front plate the extension wiring could still affect the connection even if you don't have a phone connected to it

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

Hi Old jim,
the only wires in the socket are the wires into back of mastersocket the old extenstion wiring was removed  disconected pre upto 8mb.
Currently using and Ads lnation faceplate. will look out a different filter to try.
Line speed has been this slow for a while well before any lights were put up. I cannot see anything reporting uptime.

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

In which case the next thing to look at are the reported errors and if there is nothing untoward showing up then it may be worth asking for a noise margin reset.
As you are on 20CN I think that is a bit simpler.
Note that given the propensity for 21CN to be much harsher in increasing noise margin it would be a good idea to do it before the change

Re: 21CN should I hold my breath for any greater speed?

I can't find the error reports for my router  nor any hidden pages listed online for Belkin N300 Share F7D3402 v1
does it matter if i use ppoe or ppoa I am using ppoe but some setups recomending ppoa is one more robust than the other?
What is the name of the old adls router program?

Do you mean Routerstats http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/internet/files.htm or DMT http://dmt.mhilfe.de/ or something else entirely
ppoa is the recommended
