21CN and ADSL/2 Question

Looking back throughy my support questions I found one from March2010 which said within the next 5 weeks i was to  go over to the 21CN, but that I would remain on the upto 8mbps service if i wanted to know more about faster services to contact them
The question expired 14 days later as I didnt respond and had no interest in changing anything, but I thought that with 21CN you went over to ADSL2 automatically, or was that not the case in 2010?

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

21CN and ADSL2/ADSL2+ aren't mutually exclusive. Depending on your line, you may just get switched over to 21CN but remain on the up to 8Mbps service (G.992.1)
If you're using a Plusnet supplied Thomson router, you can check what you're currently on via the following link - http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0
G.992.1 = ADSL
G.992.3 = ADSL2
G.992.5 = ADSL2+

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

Thanks, I have a Belkin router so unable to check. I suspect i am not on ADSL2 though as I've had the service for years and never asked for any changes etc

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

I went over tro 21CN but because of the line length stayed on ADSL1
I think at that time the rule was if the expected speed was less than 4,000kbps you stayed on ADSL1

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

Belkin router do have some 'difficulties' with providing the data.

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

If its dry Month and BT have drained the water out of their cable runs I can get 7616 kbps, but recently this has steadily got worse, the flood gates must have opened again.
I suspect even FTTC won't cure this as every time something has gone wrong it's been between my house and the cabinet at the end of the road

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

If you do the standard test at www.speedtester.bt.com and it includes an upload test and/or the quoted downstream IP Profile is not a round number then you are on 21CN. If your normal sync speed was over 4000kbps migration would usually have been to ADSL2+, but probably with upstream capped at 448kbps if migrated in 2010.

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

I ran a speed test which seemed to suggest I am on 21CN as it did an upload test, although I got these results for the download speed....
Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.93 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 2 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 5.14 Mbps

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

@Galaxy You're not on 21CN, I've noticed that your line has a 2mb profile at the moment but is synching at 5824 (that usually means a 5mb profile) I've submitted a line reset which should resolve that disparity within 24 hours. Please let me know if not.

Err... I wish I knew, sorry if it caused any confusion. Sorry, I should have said you're on 21CN but not on ADSL2, I can move you on to that if you like though.

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

I'm happy with it on standard ADSL for now.
I still seem to have a 2mb PlusNet profile though?

Re: 21CN and ADSL/2 Question

Hi Galaxy,
I have raised your profile to 7100 to allow for your new BT IP profile. This should take effect shortly. I would suggest moving to ADSL2+ though because you'll probably double your speed!

HI Galaxy,
Do you want me to move it, it'll only take a day?
