Re: 20kb/s on usenet

I gave up last night, at about 9pm I wasn't even getting 2K never mind 20K. I just switched off.
News seems to be EXTREMELY HEAVILY throttled at the moment. P2p is fine but news just crawls along, and switching g/w's doesn't make much difference.

It would help us understand if you said what account types you are on.

Re: 20kb/s on usenet

Well I am on "unlimited". I should have been seeing 164Kb at 9pm. As it was I couldn't even download compressed headers from astaweb. It was hovering between 0 and 2K/b a total waste of time.
This morning I had to move central again as it was topping at 128Kb at 10am.

Re: 20kb/s on usenet

I'd be interested in seeing what the BBC iPlayer says for download and streaming speeds when Usenet is going slow. If it's the Plusnet traffic shaping I'd expect to see streaming giving normal speeds and the downloads slowed down. If it's the BT network or your exchange then the streaming will be affected as well.

Re: 20kb/s on usenet

Well using get_iplayer (I use Linux so don't use the iplayer web page) I can get FULL speed, As I said p2p was fine (Infact it was running at 250KB/2.5Mb) but usenet was unusable.
