Re: 160K sync speed

Here are the router stats
Uptime: 0 days, 4:20:06
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 384 / 928
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 0.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 17.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.5 / 53.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 5.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 836,982
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 110
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 98

In summary the problems occured after a pair swop to fix a faulty voice line two weeks ago.  For the 3 months prior to the swop I was sync'ing around 4500, after about 900.  Line card and DSLAM have been reset - still at 900.  The problem would seem to be elsewhere  - D-side, E-side ?  I can't see that waiting to see if the line is stable is going to solve the issue.

Re: 160K sync speed

The upload sync speed shown by the BT speedtester should be 448kbps, not 384kbps, which suggests (as you surmise) that all is not well with your connection.

Re: 160K sync speed

AFAIK, the upstream is adaptive so I wouldn't say a sync speed of 384kbps is suggestive of problems. Pretty sure my line syncs at less than 832kbps on a Max Premium circuit (upstream).
Having said that, it certainly seems there's something awry here, especially given that the problems coincide with the recent engineering work.
Edit: Your sync is dropping very low and it's forcing your IP profile down. It also looks like the 10 day stabilisation does start again as your maximum stable rate has been set to 288kbps (this is the lowest acceptable speed BT consider your line to be capable of and is decided by performance during the first 10 days). This was 1152kbps.
Headline Rate-Downstream Line Rate	BIP Update Time	Sync Rate	Sync Timestamp
750 06/03/2008 06:12 864 05/03/2008 14:00
750 05/03/2008 16:16 864 05/03/2008 14:00
750 05/03/2008 15:43 160 20/02/2008 16:23
135 04/03/2008 00:29 160 20/02/2008 16:23
135 20/02/2008 17:13 160 20/02/2008 16:23
135 20/02/2008 16:44 864 19/02/2008 16:42
750 20/02/2008 00:41 864 19/02/2008 16:42

The Headline Rate-Downstream Line Rate is basically your IP profile and the BIP Update Time the time it was applied to your line. The Sync Rate is the bandwidth down reading of your router and the Sync Timestamp the time it was recorded.
You router stats show that your line is capable of *far* more than this. Something is broken and if you haven't doen already then I would raise a fault on your line.

Re: 160K sync speed

I have raised a fault, this was done two weeks ago, immediately after the pair swop for the noisy voice line.  For the 3 months prior to this fault I was sync'ing at 4000-4500, so you are correct in saying that my line will support a much higher rate.  My problem is that very little seems to happening to correct it.  Line card and DSLAM have been reset, to little effect.  So the problem resides elsewhere - what are we left with D-side E-side jumpering, underground cabling.  Plusnet seem unwilling to address these issues for reasons I don't understand, and which I am getting increasingly frustrated with.

Re: 160K sync speed

I wouldn't say we're unwilling to address your issues. Your fault ticket is being updated almost daily and we're pushing this with BT Wholesale as best we can.
I'm sorry it's taking so long to get to the bottom of it however we are trying.

Re: 160K sync speed

Hi Yakzil,
Unfortunately other than remote tests (which have already been done by BT) the only way for them to test the line is to send an engineer out which will be arranged once all other possibilities have been checked. I will get in contact with BT and request that your fault is passed back to the diagnostics team in order that the jumpering is checked prior to the engineer.
Sorry for the continued hassle, to a large degree we are dependant on BT as regards the testing that is done.

Hi Orbrey
Don't know if you have seen the latest reply from Plusnet (11.05) - real Monty Python territory - can you check if this is really the situation

Re: 160K sync speed

Looks like Matt's taken ownership of this to monitor the situation over the next few days. I must admit though I've just noticed something:
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 29.5 / 53.0

I misinterpreted this earlier and read the figures the other way around (ie. that the downstream attenuation was 29.5db).
As per Mick's recent comments on your ticket 53.0db is about borderline for a fixed 1Mbps product. It is starting to look like you were unlucky when you were switched to a new pair. I'm sure we can resolve this for you but it might not be easy Sad
