Smart TV keeps losing network connection

I've recently installed the new EE router, but since then my samsung smart tv has kept losing its network connection. I can get it reconnected but it doesnt last more than a few hours.

I phoned EE up and they sent a new router out, the same thing happens.

They said if it didn't work then they'll send me an older router, but i'm worried i they do i won't get the faster speed.

Could it be slower with an older router?

You just discovered the TV was living on the edge of the coverage with the previous router.

I'd keep the new & speedy EE Router and invest a home network suitable for the size and structure of your building.

what would i need to buy to make the new router work?

Is there any reason why things like alexa that are even further away work fine?

The alexa might be working fine as it making a 2.4 GHz band connection which works better at distance, where the TV is using a weaker 5GHz band signal.

The EE Hub does have a compatible Wireless option, maybe try enabling that and select that Wireless SSID for the TV.

Failing that, try an internet search with the TV model number detailing your issue might provide you the answer.

This might be a stupid question.

But i now have 2 ee hubs, could i just plug another one in close to the tv and use that just for the tv?

Yes, you probably can if the router's configuration allows it (most do), as you would need to configure the 'extension' unit to behave as a wireless access point instead of acting as a router. You should be able to Google how to do that, or see if somebody has posted instructions on the EE community site.

There are some similarities between the Hub two and EE supplied hub

The two Hubs will need a wired connection.

Take a look at EE wireless extenders as the can use the built in mesh the EE Hubs have.

I suggest you go to the EE forum, as ask for help there.

The previously mentioned compatible mode on the EE Hub would be worth looking at.

or you could do the least technical thing (and most reliable), and just run an ethernet cable between the router and TV.

If you got CAT5e flat cable (example on eBay here), that is easy to hide under carpet, etc.

Personally I run standard round CAT5e between the carpets and under the skirting boards.

Plugged in where ?

If you're thinking a phone line extension socket, then you can only have one router making the internet connection

The issue could be down to the age of the Smart TV rather than a weak WiFi signal, it may not work well with new routers; that is why I have suggested trying compatible mode on the Hub

I see i didnt know you could only run one phone line.

At this rate the easiest thing would be a new tv.

Funny how the older routers work fine.

EE will send it.

Add it to your EE account as an extra, it looks like they cost about £150.

Which would be a waste of money if it’s a compatibility problem. @rubix1942 Try the advice in post #13 before going any further.

That seems an excessive overkill, when reconfiguring the second router would only take maybe three minutes.

Without knowing the exact model of router you have, these are the generalised instructions -

To complete this setup, you must connect a computer directly to your secondary EE router using an Ethernet cable before modifying the settings below.

1. Match the IP range

Find your main router's gateway IP address (usually 192.168.1.254).
Log into your secondary EE router's admin panel by typing 192.168.1.254 into a web browser.
Navigate to the Advanced Settings or Network menu.
Change the secondary router's IP address so it is in the same range but does not conflict with the main router (e.g., change it to 192.168.1.200).

2. Disable the DHCP server

Locate the DHCP Server settings inside the secondary router's network menu.
Switch the DHCP server to Off or Disabled.
Save your changes (this prevents the secondary router from assigning competing IP addresses to your devices).

3. Change the operation mode (if applicable)

Look for a setting named Routing Mode or NAT.
Switch this setting from Gateway or Routing to Bridged or Bridge Mode if the option is available.
Note: If your specific firmware version does not show this option, disabling the DHCP server is enough.

4. Connect the hardware

Unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer.
Connect one end of a long Ethernet cable into a standard LAN port (not the WAN port) on your main router.
Connect the other end into a standard LAN port on your secondary EE router.

5. Finalise wireless settings

Connect your devices to the secondary EE router's existing Wi-Fi name.
Alternatively, log back into its new IP address (192.168.1.200) to change its Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password to match your main router for seamless roaming.

I would not use an IP Address in the current Hub's DHCP pool, anything between 192.168.1.1 to .63 is outside.
