Powerline and Hub2

Hi, I have a Hub 2 and now need to add powerline to get wifi to a summerhouse at the bottom of the garden as the only feasible method. I have looked at the Devolo Magic 2 Wifi 6 but am unclear as to whether that would be compatible with Hub 2. Can anyone help please?

It'll work, but whether as well as you might hope for this astronomical price is debatable.If wired correctly your summerhouse mains power will presumably have it's own RCD protected mains circuit. RCDs nobble the speed of powerline links. Can you not install an Ethernet cable between the two buildings? This will cost very little and give you the full available speed.

Thanks very much. I appreciate that Hub 2 is not wifi6 enabled but would the Devolo then just work at wifi5? Sorry but I am no techie!

Thanks very much. I appreciate that ethernet would be the ideal solution but it's not practical given the location.

@brookorchard1 the Devolo Magic 2 Wifi 6 does appear to be hugely expensive for the task.compared to say ;

High end Wi-Fi modes are not at all relevant in home situations with few devices connecting
and where a long power cable out to the summerhouse and consumer unit protections can take a toll.

I'd buy where you can try and pick some one like Amazon for ease of returns.

Many thanks Philip. I suggested the Devolo as it gets very good reviews so am grateful for the advice to down spec.

Just for info I thought I might as well go for wifi6 powerline in the hope that in the future the Hub or a replacement would be so enabled and the powerline would be rady to take advantage of it. Seemed sensible to me at least.

No, I was making the point to @bmc that the OPs suggested WiFi extender kit would be connecting to his Hub2 via powerline and not WiFi as he seemed to be assuming, therefore the Hub2 WiFi capability was irrelevant.

A very good question.

Now that I've actually thought about it the unit connects via ethernet so it doesn't matter what WiFi the Hub2 has.

Powerline uses a LAN output to transmit data to the remote unit, which might include a WiFi output. The WiFi protocol of the router has no connection to that of the Powerline remote unit. Either can be WiFi 5 or 6, it's irrelevant.
