AV1000 Powerline extenders will work reasonably well providing both locations are on the same electrical circuit. However, they will max out at around 150Mb. If on different circuits then don't expect much above 50Mb and if via separate RCDs then possibly even as low as 25Mb!

Hi everyone.

I would like to get wired internet into my home office, mainly for gaming purposes. I need a good quality connection so would rather it was wired than use wi-fi.

My home office is almost 30 metres from my router. To complicate matters, our home is made of sandstone and I really don't want to be drilling holes if I can help it.

I currently have an ethernet cable in my office that comes into a side room, 10 metres from my router. To avoid cables across our living room is there a wi-fi repeater recommended that can jump the signal from the router to the side room where i can then connect an ethernet cable out to my shed?

Any advice would be very gratefully received.

Thanks

Brian

Are you on FTTC or FTTP?

If the main purpose is for gaming in tke office then, if at all possible, a wired connection is best.

While it may cost a bit to get the work done it is furure proof and takes out one leg of the WiFi signal thereby reducing latency. Probably not by much but I gather in gaming every little bit counts.

Thanks for the reply.

I am on fttp (500mb). I am going to try and bridge the gap between my router and my ethernet cable with a T-Link extender and see how I get on. Our home is really old so don't want wires/cables in view if possible.

Thanks

Have you considered a fat ethernet cable which could be hidden between the carpet and skirting board?

https://amzn.eu/d/8DUN87I

WiFi extenders (repeaters) tend not to be overly efficient. An alternative technology is WiFi PtP bridges - a quick look found this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/KuWFi-Wireless-Ethernet-Coverage-Starlink-White-1/dp/B0CYQ1NZ9Q/ref=asc_df_B0CYQ1NZ9Q?mcid=483ef119156a31c3b719dae43aea05ff&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696386561239&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2066976648929222347&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9209160&hvtargid=pla-2322982435186&psc=1&hvocijid=2066976648929222347-B0CYQ1NZ9Q-&hvexpln=0&gad_source=1

I guess there are others at different prices and possibly more suitable for your needs.
