I have been quite happy for some time downloading the occasional music video to my pc using JDownloader 2. There wasn't a problem until about about a week ago. Before then, JDownloader would download the video file, and some others that went with it (.txt, .srt, etc). All I actually want is the video file so I delete the others. Now it downloads the others but halts when it comes to the video file.I have had this problem on 3 music videos since the problem started

Does anybody know why, and a solution, please.

I thought it might be because I am using Win 7 still. I do have another computer with Win 11, and I have tried installing JDownloader on that, but the download of JDownloader seems to go on about pdf files. If I run Malwarebytes on the Win 11 pc, it quarantines the files that came from that site, then deletes them.

What on earth is going on?

Thankyou for any help

@Townman Thankyou. Just to clarify this a bit, I can watch the YouTube video, if I watch directly. Its just the use of JDownloader to download the video file onto the hard drive on my pc that doesn't work on my Win 7 pc. The problem with my Win 11 pc is the process of installing JDownloader - I dont know what is happening there but it doesn't look right. I met a few mates today who are reasonably computer savvy, and they said there appears to be a problem with Win 11 with an update that is causing problems. I don't know how correct that is. One of my mates has a problem that none of the interfaces on his pc work now so he doesn't know how he is going to try to fix it.

Hello @shutter . I have just tried installing 4kdownload and it failed to install. The log file ends with a comment about the version of Windows being unsupported - I'm using Win 7. I used to use 4kdownload before I moved to JDownloader 2, but 4k moved on to not working with Win 7, hence the change to JDownloader, so I'm not surprised it doesn't like Win 7 now.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestion. It was worth a try - they may have made a later version of 4k which would work with Win 7

@penneck OK... then you might like to look out and search for an older version...

Here is a Google AI answer to the query "Old version of 4Kvideodownloader for Windows 7 2

You can find early versions of 4K Video Downloader on third-party websites like Uptodown and Softonic, which host version histories for users who need to use older software. However, be aware that older versions may no longer work properly due to updates on video streaming sites and are not guaranteed to be compatible with Windows 7, as the developer has indicated that newer versions are not compatible with Windows versions older than Windows 10.

I have just spent some time downloading from uptodown various old versions of 4kvideodownloader back to and including 4.9.3. They were all older than the JDownloader s/w I have, at least using the file date stamp on my pc as a guide they are. Every one of them when I try to run, complains that it cannot parse it successfully.

Am I doing something wrong, or is it just a barrier that I cannot get past?

so I checked with Google AI

You use a .msi file to install software on a Windows computer by double-clicking it. An .msi file is a Microsoft Installer package that contains all the information needed to install, maintain, or remove a program. When you run it, the Windows Installer service reads the file and executes the installation process, placing files, creating shortcuts, and making necessary registry changes.

Hope that helps.

update:-

I've just gone back to JDownloader2, and I noticed that one of the symbols across the top of it was feinter than the rest, so I put the pointer on, and a message came up thart there were some updates available. I clicked on this symbol and the updates started. When they had finished, I tried a download of a music video, and I got all of the files that the download told me I would get. The video file was there, and it worked, so it looks like the problem I had been having has gone.

My thanks to all who tried to help me with this
