Does anyone know the correct term for this

I know there is a correct name for the "hole" offset on a tuning knob on some radios, to facilitate faster rotation / tuning, by using one finger and rotating the knob at a faster rate than using the outer edge being gripped by the fingers.

I also know it is possible to buy a "stick-on" version, which I want to buy for a radio I have, but need to know the correct term to search for a supplier.

In the RS catalogue there’s a horrendously priced one under plain old potentiometer knobs. See Elma 39mm black pot knob K1-DM-B60.

Hi Guys.

Thanks for the input....but I do not want to replace the knob on the receiver... I just want the correct term for the "hole".. so I can purchase a "stick - on " version..

Checking out "kranker" found the term "dimple" so maybe that will be the route to follow.

I think you are referring to the HAM radio "elecraft finger dimple" - which appears to have gone out of production in 2016.

You might want to search for alternatives to "elecraft finger dimple", unless I find one first.

@outcast Thank you very much for your time spent searching and researching for the answer.. and for the link to Waters & Stanton site... As it seems they have been out of stock for some time, probably looking for a dead dodo now.. so will just have to try and figure out a way of manufacturing one from some old plastic and a 10mm drill, or large countersink bit ...

As it appears that you could likely get a replacement knob in the right size and with the finger dimple,

isn't the easiest solution just to swap the knob for a new one, as it is likely just a grub screw attachment ?

You could keep the original knob somewhere safe, in case you ever wanted to revert back to the original design.

@outcast Yup ! could do that .. but there are two big knobs on this receiver, that match the whole colour scheme and I don`t think the expense of replacing them both is worth it.

just adding a stick on "dimple" would be no problem. ( could even add one to each to "match" the pair ! )

There is the risk though that it might take so long for @James_B to unblock this image, that it might have gone obsolete !
