FTP issue (freenetname server)

I came to Plusnet via Freenetname. I am no longer a Plusnet customer but they still host my website free of charge for life. I really just want to delete my personal website as it is really embarrassing and 25 years old. I’ve logged into the FTP server and am getting some strange results which may be due to changes I have read about. I am not much of a techie but have successfully logged in to the FTP server using FileZilla and the details below.

Host: www.users.freenetname.co.uk

Username: username@freenetname.co.uk

Password: ******

Port: 21

I could view all the html files etc and just deleted them. When this didn’t work (the website still works and can be found in a google search, I then tried proving ownership in the Google Search Console by uploading their verification file so I can then remove my site from google search results. What is odd that after successfully uploading the google site verification file I cannot browse to it. I wonder if my site is mirrored on a different FTP server as no matter what I try and remove or change from the server the website still works and any change isn’t reflected when you refresh the page.

Anyone out there who can assist me, please? Thanks in advance.

For the avoidance of doubt, is the local cache clear?

When you refresh the page, press the SHIFT key. See Wikipedia:Bypass your cache - Wikipedia

That didn't help but thanks for posting. AI suggests this is a possible cause but I have no idea how to follow it....
