topic British ring tone when using Fanvil GA11 or GA10 ATA in Tech Help - Software/Hardware etc

I couldn't find any information on how to set up a British ring tone on the Fanvil GA11 ATA, so having worked it out, thought I would post it here for the benefit of others in a similar position.

The ring type (under Phone Settings, Media Settings, Ring Type Settings) for a British ring tone should be set to 400/200,400/2000

I am currently with Plusnet , and full fibre is about to be made available in my area. Whether or not I stay with Plusnet I am planning to move to VOIP for my landline. I have purchased a Fanvil GA11 to play with in advance, as I already have a Sipgate account (originally Sipgate Lite) for a business number that I no longer use (and an ageing Cisco ATA that still works, but I would prefer to replace for longer-term use) and costs me nothing. When I move to full fibre, I intend to port my landline number to A&A and feed the output into my existing telephone wiring using voice reinjection. I want to have al least one corded phone for two reasons (i) I prefer the shape of a corded handset and (ii) the corded phone will still work in the event of a power cut (I will have battery backup for my ONT, router and ATA).

I would recommend the GA11 rather than the GA10 as it has the BT socket. If you use the GA10 you will also need an RJ11 adapter with ring capacitor.

@wintrip useful information. Thanks for posting.

Not used one myself, but the GA11 looks better value than the Grandstream HTxxx options.

Decided on the Fanvil GA11 for several reasons:

(1) Cheaper than the Grandstream (bought mine from VSIP https://www.vsip.co.uk/product/fanvil-ga11-ata-1-fxs-port-bt-socket-built)

(2) Has BT socket.

(3) Much smaller than Grandstream.

(4) Can be wall mounted.

@wintrip just looked at the manual for the GA11, it seems to have a call blocking facility (blacklist) , have you used it ?

I ask because one of the providers ( A & A ) often recommended doesnt currently support call blocking.

I hadn't used it, but your message prompted me to give it a go.

Yes, there is a facility for blocking numbers under Call List, Restricted Incoming Calls.

However, when I blocked a number I tried calling from, instead of ringing, it went straight to voicemail. To block the number completely I had to make a change in Sipgate to turn off the setting to divert to voicemail if busy.

Not ideal, but better than nothing!.
