@jab1 , thanks again, I did think of making Edge my default browser which presumably would have given me the option of importing my history and favourites from FF, then reverse that process after installing the latest version of FF but everywhere I looked I was assured that that was not necessary.

Anyway, I've managed to restore my most used sites from memory so I can at least do the things I usually need to do.

I've never had any problems with Firefox updates but when trying to update as requested today, I get a message that

Platform version 130.0 is not compatible with min Version130.0.1 max Version 130.0.1

Although the program list in Control Panel shows that I have FF 130.0.1, when I try to launch it, I just get a 'blank FF browser' that looks like it is trying to launch.

Rebooting the computer has not made any difference, and I can't find any relevant information by Googling.

Anyone else had this problem?

@Jonpe Very strange - just checked and the latest release, as shown on the official FF site is 130.0 - released 01/10/2024, so something is strange with your 'update' message - 130.0.1 isn't released.

In any case, if the offered version wasn't compatible with my system, it should just have left me with the version I had.

You said you ended up with 130.0.1 - which isn't on the official release channel. What prompted you to update, and what was your previous version?

EDIT: Something strange going off - the original page I took the 01/10/2024date from has disappeared, to be replaced by one that says 130.0 was issued to release channel users 03/09/2024 and 130.0.1 on 17/09/2024.

What OS are you using?

Windows 10

Yes, it looks like 130.0.1 was released in mid-September.

A message appears in the top right-hand corner of the browser when an update is available and I can Install or Dismiss. I usually click Dismiss and install it via the drop-down menu when I'm not busy doing other things which is what I did today. I always install FF updates so my previous version would have been the latest one. The list of programs in Control Panel show that 130.0.1 was installed 17/09/2024 which is the date of Mozilla's release notes for that version.

If 130.0.1 won't work for for some reason that I can't fathom, uninstall it, and install 130.0 direct from Mozilla - you shouldn't lose any bookmarks etc. doing it that way.

I now notice that the error message says 131.0, not the 130.0 that I said in my OP although I'm pretty sure I copied it down correctly. 131.0 would make more sense since the previous version was 130.0.1

130.0.1 was working fine since 17/09
