Hi I am looking at replacing my current Tplink router with a new model but the newer ones all seem to be standalone routers and do not have a modem built in. Am I correct in thinking I will need a modem similar to the BT Openreach ones that will then plug into my new router?

Thanks

Depends on your service. You need a modem for ADSL or FTTC services. FTTP connects directly to the router.

The Plusnet Hub 2 can be set to bridge mode, which turns it into a modem.

If you are either ADSL or FTTC it maybe be possible to use your current TP-Link device as a modem or use the new router as a wireless access point for the current router, what ever your decision you will need extra space for the two devices.

As suggested a Hub two can be configured as a modem and works well in that mode.

Be interested on why you have a need to update your current router.
