plus.net won't open in Chrome

I have plus.net set as my home page in Chrome. A couple of days ago I started getting the following message:

"This site can’t provide a secure connection

www.plus.net uses an unsupported protocol.

ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH"

Only for plus.net, every other website I use seems fine. I am using Firefox for this, and in that it is fine.

Not overly bothered, but has something changed at the plus.net end, or is there a problem with my browser config.

I have exactly the same problem today Chrome Version 106.0.5249.119 (Official Build) (32-bit), Firefox is fine (I accessed plusnet to print the monthly bill)

This site can’t provide a secure connection

www.plus.net uses an unsupported protocol.

This website, community.plus.net I can access OK on Chrome.

It's working fine for me now in Chrome. I didn't change anything. Puzzling.

I just found turning off HTTPS scnanning in my anti virus solved the issue. This was after I discovered Chrome couldn't access my Bank site either. Now both work.

This error has just started in Chrome only (DuckDuck and Edge are fine) Cleared cache, tried all the SSL resets and back steps, read evert entry on how to get rid of the error that I can Googly find. No clue as to why it only seems to effect Chrome (even deleted browser extensions) and why it has only started happening in the last few days.

Checked the install:

Chrome is up to date

Version 115.0.5790.171 (Official Build) (64-bit)

New to forum, tried to open new topic, says "this topic is similar" tried to reply, and it says "Consider starting a new topic"! So, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post.

Thanks @jab1 the error messages do look like an SSL mis-config problem.

Just ran an SSL check and all looks OK..

I agree that's what the error message looks like, @Champnet . Not an area I'm an expert in, but could it just be @17thBarrow 's copy of Chrome which is corrupt?

Is the home page pointing at http://www.plus.net or https://www.plus,net. It should be the latter (assuming that the non-secure http header is still operational).

Plus.net defaults to https://www.plus.net I've tried forcing to http but it redirects to https.

Whilst I am the same Google synched user, it's with more than one copy of Chrome. I.e. Windows and Android. It's also over more than one ISP i.e. I get same result with mobile data, and that would use a different CP's network cache.

The subnet community.plus net works in all cases.

When did your copy/copies of Chrome update to this version? To me, this sounds like Chrome issue, rather than anything else, if it happens to all instances.

The app store dates it to 2nd Aug. So it could well be related to the update.

I have been seeing this problem for a few weeks, maybe more, as I don't check plus.net unless there's a problem.

Anyway, I have two old office PCs running 32-bit Windows 10 Pro Insider Build 22H2. Both have the latest version of Chrome (Version 116.0.5845.111 (Official Build) (32-bit)).

On the older one, I can open plus.net using any browser I choose, including Chrome. On the newer one, I can open plus.net using Edge and Firefox but when I try Chrome, I get the "Unsupported Protocol" error.

I am typing this using the problem Chrome, which has no trouble accessing community.plus.net, although it did just lose the first copy of this post. Trying again...

Access seems to come and go. Last week I managed in Android Chrome, this week, back to the error. As you say community site is always OK and Edge, or DuckDuck browsers can get at the main site all the time, just Chrome on various OS.

I'm now getting this but only in Chrome on my Samsung tablet. My phone is fine and that's using exactly the same version of Chrome. The Samsung browser works fine on my tablet.

It's only for the main plus.net site, the community subdomain works fine.

Any ideas? I've already cleared down all cache in Chrome.

I have noticed the main site reports that it uses TLS 1.2 whereas this page uses 1.3. Don't know if that's part of the problem.
