I have Office Professional Plus 2019 on DVD, which includes Outlook 2019, bought from Ebay at a bargain price. I did not go for the cheapest, so beware. It was a pain to get authenticated, I can't remembers for sure how it was done but from memory I had to ring MS but then it was automated and involved me typing in a lot of numbers then entering a load more from the MS response.

Since then it has worked properly with no indication that it was a 'grey' market version. After toying with 365 I decided that the online product is not for me and quickly returned to 365.

Note before spending a lot of money: Mainstream support for Office 2019 will end on October 10, 2023. Unlike other versions of Microsoft Office, Office 2019 will only get two years of extended support, which means that support for Office 2019 will end on the same day as support for Office 2016 will, on October 14, 2025.

Note that there is a newer product that is not web based, Office 2021. Note that you must get the pofessional versions of either to get the bundled Outlook app.

Personally if I needed three versions I would be looking at alternatives such as Thunderbird to see if they will do what I require.

Gmail announcement that Outlook will no longer be able to link to Gmail from 30.5.2022

Gmail has just announced that Outlook 2013 and 2016 will no longer be able to link to Gmail from 30.5.2022 due to password security. This is bad news for me because I have used Outllook and the original version called Exchange for the last 25 years !

I upgraded about seven years ago to Outlook 2013 before 2016 came out. That was expensive as it involved three machines. I did not expect to have to do it again, despite the passage of time as Microsoft promised to keep Outlook 2013 updated until 2025. I use Gmail as "server" for Outlook, storing the messages offline in *.pst files. Because of what I do in a private capacity, I need to keep archives going back at least six years.

My concern is now that I will have to upgrade Outlook again, but having looked on the web, it appears that Outlook 2019 is the latest version and is compliant with Gmail security. However, I get the impression, maybe wrongly, that 2019 is basically online only and that there is no way of using it offline. Does anyone know if I am correct about this ? I need to be able to work offline and be able to keep annual archives on disk. Using the Cloud is not going to work.

Does anyone know any more about this and what alternatives there might be ?

Thanks.

There are web versions of the Microsoft however, the installed stand alone versions are available.

Have you thought about subscribing to Office 365? You can install that on to 6 PCs.
