Amazon Fire Stick

Hi,
I recently purchased a Fire Stick and had Kodi installed on it. When I plugged the stick into my tv and went through the set up process, my internet connection displays as very good, but quickly shows as fair, and it's disconnected.
I have no issues with my phone or tablet connecting and catch up services through my tv stream ok. Upon running a speed test my download speed is just below 6mb. So why won't my Fire Stick connect?

How far away is the router from the stick, i kind of have the same issues, although the firestick is quite a distance from the router. i get no better than fair connection.

Router and stick are less than 10ft away from each other. Works perfectly in my parents house where the router is upstairs.
