550 - relay not permitted

Hi, folks,
I am trying to reply to an email, but I'm getting delivery failure notifications with this error. I am using a charity domain name hosted by 1and1. I understand some ISPs block relayed mail, although this is the first time I have seen it. If I reply form home it is being relayed through PN, of course. I get the same notification if I reply from work (relayed through their ISP, Eclipse), and, strangely, even if I log on to 1and1 webmail and try to send it from there.
I could send it from my PN address, but it looks better coming from the charity domain. Any way round this?

Its normally blocked by ip so if you are on plus net you try to send with a plusnet ip the same at work but webmail should work or there isnt much point having it. Who has the MX record for the domain do you know? They should be able to set it to allow mail via plusnet if they want to that is
Depending on the software you use for email you should be able to set the return address to the charity which may do but the header would show it comes via plusnet if anyone looked.

Can you post the error message? SWMBO uses the 1and1 webmail to send mail with no issues from both her office and my parents with no issues.
Also uses the 1and1 relay (with authentication) from our PN line..

I only have 1 message to hand here at work. Tried to send this relayed through Eclipse.

If it helps, here is another failure notification, resulting from the attempt to send by 1and1 webmail. A third sent from home using the same account, but relayed through PN gave basically the same message, but with "X-Mailer: webmail" replaced by "X-Mailer: Evolution 2.24.3".

I have got someone else to try with the same result, so I think it must be an issue with the recipient's domain host. I have looked up the domain and found some ownership details, so I'll try to contact them that way.

You may want to try this to test if it's a valid address. Go to the blue box near the bottom and enter the address you are sending to.

Below are the results that I get using the above link testing a domain I have with a mx record that's pointing to my mail server but the mail server has not be configured to receive emails for this domain.

So, if I can get in touch I can suggest what they need to do to start receiving emails!
