I suggest you do that pronto - for a number of reasons routers are better than modems - not least because they instantly make you safer on-line as you a hiding behind the router NAT addressing. Performance is often better on a router.
It is highly possible that the modem is the cause of your disconnections.

I keep getting disconnected, reported this on 16th Dec and they changed the settings for interleaving. This did not fix it and they advised me to leave the computer/modem on so they could check the line. Computer was on from 12pm yesterday for about 12 hours, sometime in the night computer attempted to switch off and modem switched off. Computer has now been on since before 10am, yesterday I asked if line had been tested yet and no one got back to me. I do not want to leave computer permanently switched on, have asked twice for someone to get back to me, aaaargh! Have even tried calling but waiting times are much more than they say.
If anyone from plusnet is reading this, my ticket no is 31231690

Have you got a modem or a router?
If it's a router you just need to leave that on - it doesn't need your PC on as well.

I have been using the modem for ages with no problems, did speak to someone at plusnet before christmas and they said the router would not make a difference. Will attempt to connect router tomorrow if I recover from my hangover, aaargh!
