No arktos I am definitely not supporting the policy and like you consider the terms of the contract unfair. I'm sorry if I gave the wrong impression. Usually when terms like that are challenged in the courts they are overturned. As far as I know only one major ISP is currently guaranteeing no increase in prices during the contract period and even allows existing customers to take advantage of any special deals offered to new customers. They also clearly state what the monthly price will be at the end of the contract. It is clearly time for a change but without a change in legislation, only if enough customers are prepared to refuse to accept it is that likely to happen. I have been with Plusnet for over a decade but am seriously considering an alternative now. Even before my current contract ends I will be paying £3.00 a month more than when it started less than 2 years ago.

Picked this up on another post here https://community.plus.net/t5/Phone/BT-Call-Protect/m-p/1434675#M23435 so why hasn't there been an announcement on here

**Price and product changes – 29th June 2017

The following pricing and product changes will apply from 29th June 2017 as set out below:-

We will introduce a new call feature for Plusnet line rental customers called 'Plusnet Call Protect'. This free feature will catch nuisance calls on your landline and send them straight to junk voicemail. More information can be found here

For new and existing Plusnet Home Phone customers:-

Line rental will increase from £17.99 per month to £18.99 per month

Line Rental Saver will increase from £185.88 per year (equivalent of £15.49 per month) to £197.88 per year, (equivalent of £16.49 per month)

Call setup fees will increase from 19 pence to 21 pence

Call charges for landline to mobile calls will increase from 12.54 pence per minute to 14.65 pence per minute

The Anytime International 300 call plan will increase from £7.50 per month to £8.00 per month

For existing Plusnet Home Phone customers:-

The Plusnet Anytime International 300 & the Talk Anytime International 300 call plans will increase from £7.50 per month to £8.00 per month

We will be increasing the call cap on the Anytime International 300 call plan for International calls from 30 to 60 minutes. If you hang up before 60 minutes and redial you will not be charged if you are still within your 300 inclusive International minutes.

We will be introducing a fair usage limit of 150 calls or 1000 minutes a month (whichever is reached first) for calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers on all of our call plans which have inclusive 0845 and 0870 calls. If this limit is breached we will hold the right to bar your phone line or cease your account.

Our early termination charges will change. How much depends on your package.

Yet another unjustifiable increase which means I would paying £3.00 a month more than when my current contract started. And as for the ridiculous 'call connection' and calls to mobile charges. Sorry Plusnet, but no thanks - I'm, off!

Who'd have thought that it would be cheaper to call from a mobile phone? I don't make many calls and now have a Three prepay mobile. 3p a minute to a landline or mobile, free Caller ID, no connection charge, no rounding up to whole minutes. I used to pay Plusnet for Anytime Calls but since prices have gone up I don't pay it anything for calls. Higher price lower income. How does that make sense for a business?

Everything goes up......... i know a friend with skytv and he is already paying £18.99 for line rental and sky charges £1.25 for voicemail, and sky free evening and weekend is about the same price as plusnet at the time of posting this around £4 a month.

Im assuming Call Protect is like tps ? ive added it to my landline to see if it helps any, and i only added it as it was free

just to add - for those of us on line rental saver

https://www.theguardian.com/money/2017/feb/22/bt-refuses-refund-prepaid-line-rental-cancel-service

In light of its price increases, I contacted BT to cancel my service, as per the rules you recently reported. I was told that as the line rental and broadband are separate, if I cancelled I would lose my pre-paid line rental payments. I challenged this, but was told by the member of staff that BT is a big company with good lawyers and I would lose the money. Is this right? JD, by email

No, what you have been told is wrong. We asked the regulator, Ofcom, about your experience, and it says: “We contacted BT to express concerns about the exit terms it was imposing on customers who had paid line rental upfront, and BT has now assured us that customers wishing to end their contract following its price increases will now be given a pro-rata refund of any line rental paid upfront.”

BT has confirmed it accepts this and will be contacting customers and briefing its advisers. To be clear, if you leave a phone company mid-contract due to a significant price rise within 30 days, you should not incur penalty charges – including pre-bought line rental.

If they do try to refuse take it to ADR and it will cost Plusnet more than the amount they'd have to refund.

My e mail from PN yesterday makes no mention of new LRS cost; perhaps because mine recently lapsed perhaps to give me flexibility to move. Notification e mail should have been comprehensive, as per the press release they issued; why are customers expected to go to
a PN web page for detail or to waste time calling in. Their e mail was 5 pages long but omits too much detail re hikes.
Did others have more detail in their PN Notification?

From media "

Line Rental Saver is going from £185.88 per year to £197.88.

call setup fees, which are going from 19p to 21p

call charges for landlines, which are set to increase from 12.54p to 14.65p

Call charges for landline to mobile calls will increase from 12.54 pence per minute to 14.65 pence per minute

The Anytime, the Plusnet Anytime and the Talk Anytime call plans will increase from £6.50 per month to £7.00 per month

We will be introducing a fair usage limit of 150 calls or 1000 minutes a month (whichever is reached first)
for calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers on all of our call plans which have inclusive 0845 and 0870 calls
I've omitted the international call & plan costs for sake of brevity.

Our early termination charges will change. How much depends on your package, although charges for line rental are increasing from £7.81 to £8.54 a month from the 29th June 2017

Regards the ability to cancel your PN Contract within 30 days of a notified increase, in the current case, as its just a phone increase, would you be able to cancel both phone & associated BB (as I have dual play package as many others will) with no penalty attached to the BB element??

I received my email today about the £1.00 line rental price rise from June. Have to say, I`m not surprised, but I am disappointed as I`ve only been with PlusNet as a new customer since the 11th of this month and am already seeing an increase (albeit a small one) to my monthly bill. I don`t use the landline or if I do, it`s only for calls I don`t want to make on my mobile incase it cuts out on me. I`m paying £25 a month or unlimited ADSL and line already and now that will go up to £26 a month. I missed out on the £20 a month deal by signing up three days early or this increase may not have been so noticeable. I won`t leave PlusNet on the basis of a £1.00 increase, but after my 12month contract is up, I may need to find a deal I can afford best. I was going to join John Lewis for £22.50p a month and get FREE weekend and evening calls, but chose to join PlusNet. Service and communications have (so far) been great, so I can`t fault that, but I`ve yet to use customer services so can`t comment on that service (yet).

One question I do have though is, why are these so called `contracts` that we agree to not `fixed` for the duration of that contract? Am I to believe it`s a bit like being on a variable gas or electric tariff where prices can go up but not down with broadband/phone? Surely a contract you sign up to at an agreed price should STAY that price? Doesn`t seem that way with broadband/phone providers. I think it should be. You sign up for a pricing plan you can afford and then wham, your hit with about two or three price rises within that duration. Something fishy about that. I don`t see that as a contract. It seems we are signing up for an agreement to allow the provider to change the pricing and allow us to leave/switch within 30 days? Can anyone be bothered with doing that all the time though?
