Keep old Plusnet accounts open for 3 years max, before being deleted

Once again i find things are not so thought out at Plusnet. I called today and suggested this while inquiring about me leaving but as normal, staff never seem to pass on suggestions.

When a customers leaves plusnet, plusnet should keep peoples old accounts open for three years I say, as most people have 18 month contracts. Customers may want to come back, and is a pain setting up new accounts again, when you already have one, just no services on it. Then if a customer has not returned or set up any services, inform the customer there account will be deleted and only then, would a new account be required.

Unless a customer specifically requests there account to be deleted or any technical, special circumstances, then above should be the policy in my view.

Also allow customers who leave, move to another isp, to keep account open for 30 days at least. From the day services cease at PN

Good idea but if every ISP did that you would never be a new customer and get any discounts for new customers.

BT kept my account open, and I can still 'claim' it; it used to say my next bill is due in October 2025 (ten years after I left), it now says my first bill is due at that time. They live in hope I suppose.

I think keeping an account open until the final payment/refund has been settled would be a good idea.

Yes you would. As if you have no services and left, then you would still be a new customer and most would offer them I am sure, to get you back.

I don't see this as pointless but keeping accounts on a platform indefinitely, is pointless.That is why I said three years max.

But what part of your account would they keep? What part of setting up an account is difficult and who is it difficult for? I guess they could keep your user account / password to allow you to login to the customer area but apart from that?

why three years? seems like a random length.
why not 1 year, why not 10 years? why not 2 minutes?

I can see some merit in this idea but this time issue and the onus on the ISP is challenging as all data is dynamic and subject to evolve and constantly morphing.

Maybe we should put the onus on the Customer and go back to Migration Authorisation Codes (MAC's) or is that not a good idea?

here is bold is what I said and why. Read my OP properly then you would not have to say dumb things.

3 years is reasonable time, unlike 7 or 8 years is not. And as said before in my above quote about contracts.

that's just an opinion that it should be three years, it's totally arbitrary.
so i will ask again, why is three years any better than 1 or 2 or 4 or 5 or any other number you can pick from the sky?

i can see you've suggested three years, but you given absolutely no sound convincing reason for it, other than that's what you think it should be.

a contract lasting 18 months is irrelevant.

If it was say 3 years (2 x 18 month or 3 x 12 month contracts, then you MUST allow some overflow time for the other ISP admin, so I think it should be say 3 years and two weeks or maybe 3 years and 1 month to allow for holidays, illness or power cuts or acts of god, that stop completion and re-starting. Yes lets say 3 years and 1 month?

i see no benefit in a company holding your account for 3 years after you haved ceased being their customer.
once you have settled your final bill that should be it.

There is no logic, no business case just some wild idea. It is unlikely to happen, just accept it.
