The thing about this is there is just £1 a month difference in the 40/2 and 40/10 profile charges BT Wholesale will be charging PlusNet for the services.

Published prices per month at Wholesale rates are 40/10 - £14 per month 40/2 - £13 per month

To complete the set 55/10 is £15 / month and 80/20 £16 per month.

The new FTTC packages will be 2 Mb/s upload,
Plusnet may consider 10 Mb/s, but no timescale. If 10 Mb/s upload is important to you vote for the timescale for Plusnet providing this. Remember how long we've waited for the packages and how far plusnet are behind BT and others.
Hopefully this may prompt some action.
Chris

Why should it prompt some action from Plusnet. Polls on this forum rarely get any where near the volume of replies that would make them take note.
There is also a financial implication of the faster upload - i.e. it will cost Plusnet to offer such an option which may make the product too expensive and thus not cost effective to do the necessary development to support it.
We are far too early in the fibre take-up for Plusnet to consider other options.

@Peter
Making the product £1 cheaper is only good if it sells more, if by saving £1, no one buys it and worse still profitable customers leave, it is not in Plusnets best interest. I've been here 7 years, paying £20 per month and using around 3-10GB, I won't be here without much longer without the 10 Mb/s option.
I think for a lot of people these aren't the FTTC products we are prepared to buy but we do want and need FTTC, and Plustnet are becomming later and later to the market with products.
On the other comments home working was those who worked from home mainly, whereas occasional home workers could be on the residential products, this was the discussion years ago. I believe that home workers products would get better service, especially if there was a problem. Similar with the business products, part-time / hobby businesses can be residential.
Chris.

I'd guess the majority of users are used to just accepting whatever upstream capability comes alongside the downstream they've chosen. This could be the first time they're given an option!
Looking at the survey of FTTC suppliers, the vast majority of them seem to include *some* option for the 10Mbps service. Of these, the majority position it in a higher-spec offering that also includes more data allowance - sometimes priced about £5 more, sometimes a lot more than this. A couple offer it as an add-on to the package, where the price is a low £1 or £2 hike (though for one it is a £10 hike). Only one supplier positions it as a business-only option.
So I'm surprised it isn't there.

"
On-line backup or in my case a backup to work, will be needed rarely but I do need it and I want all the available speed for this. I don't complain because with the current speed its not an option and entails me doing it a completely different and much less satisfactory way. Remember for many FTTC constitutes x6 or more download increase in speed and x4 to x20 upload, it changes the game.
Chris.

Faster upload speed has always been available. With ADSL Max at a cost and with ADSL2/2+ if you ask for it. The speed is up to 1.3mbps and I normally get just below 1mbps. Upload speed is important to me as I run an email server and do daily on-line incremental backups and 1mbps is okay 2mbps will be better but 10mbps is an overkill.

@cja, I've taken your feedback on board after reading your contribution to other threads on this board, and I'll ensure it's relayed to the appropriate people within the business.
Must admit, I'm interested in what it is you're wanting to do that would benefit so significantly from the increased upload speed? I frequently work from home, often upload moderately sized files via FTP/HTTP and remotely access and stream music from my home machine when at work (amongst other things). Having my upload limited to 832kbps certainly doesn't hinder me all that much?
There's a few things it's worth bringing to this debate...
Firstly is the question of coverage. I haven't the figures to hand but FTTC still has quite sparse coverage. Even at enabled exchanges, there's only a percentage of cabinets that support provision of the service. Whilst it's just a matter of time and the situation won't always be like this, it's worth considering that there's a significant proportion of our customer base whom the question of upload doesn't even apply to (I can't even get ADSL2+ and it's not as if I'm out in the sticks either).
Secondly is the question of demand. Did you know that when we provision a customer on ADSL2+, we cap the upload at 448kbps (rather than the 1Mbps or so that's attainable in cases)? Yes, there is a process for requesting this is uncapped but how many people request this? Well I can tell you it's relatively few.
Third question is that of cost. The wholesale rental cost is more expensive if you want to provide a 10Mbps upstream service. There's also a pretty significant cost associated with regrading a line between the 2Mbps and 10Mbps variants. It might seem simple for us to offer 2Mbps on Value and 10Mbps on Extra for example, but what happens if a customer transfers between packages as it would cost us just shy of a tenner each time this happens.
We welcome feedback, and I appreciate what you're saying, but at the very best all you would see for launch is a manual/case-by-case type affair that would allow for increased upload (and I can't guarantee that at this stage either).
Not sure how long it's going to be available for, but those on enabled exchanges/cabinets can probably still hop onto the trial if they're quick and take advantage of the 10Mbps upload rate

From my POV I would want the faster upload, 2 main reasons. The first is I have a SlingBox and the picture quality is noticeably better, the other is I occasionally run a GTR2 game server for a group of friends. For this to support a group of 20 drivers the upload is in excess of 2mbps. Ok I can compromise on the SlingBox but the game serving is different. With bandwidth allowances I couldn't afford to run either full time as I'd bust my limits in next to no time.
For online backups I'd try and schedule these for offpeak hours. Thus as long as the job completes in the available time speed is not so important. It's rare for me to have a large file to upload that must be there now rather than in 5 mins.

Quote from: Bob

Secondly is the question of demand. Did you know that when we provision a customer on ADSL2+, we cap the upload at 448kbps (rather than the 1Mbps or so that's attainable in cases)? Yes, there is a process for requesting this is uncapped but how many people request this? Well I can tell you it's relatively few.

I asked for this but was told by CS that whilst it was possible it was not recommended as download speeds may suffer. Oh, and by the way the increased upload speed was not mentioned to me, I had to request it.

It depends on how stable your line is and what your stats are. if you are willing to take the risk then just say so and it will be actioned.... If there are problems you can have it capped again.
Note: this is only available on 21CN/ADSL2+ connections.
