We once had an intermitent line fault that impacted on our phone and internet service that lasted at least 12 months. When the phone rang the internet would cut out and the router would reset itself. We would be off line for anything up to an hour at a time . Engineers could not find the cause . One day a chap turned up who was determined to find the reason. It took him all day and it turned out to be two pieces of incomaptible equipment in the exchange that generated line errors when a ring pulse is transmitted and caused the router to loose its sync.
A freind had a fault last year that lasted 3 months.
None of this is surprising though as the delivery of the internet via telephone lines is subject to many problems and difficulties. The technology is no where near reliable as the telephone network was never designed to deliver an internet service in thr first place.
