Could someone from PN please clarify the following.
What happens when a current user on 40/20 comes to the end of their contract do they:
a, stay on 40/20 indefinetly
b, get forced to to 40/2 if the contact to re negotiate a deal
I was told a few weeks ago I could not re negotiate a new contract as I was not in the last months of my current one. I had read on the forums that other users had managed to re negotiate but no one had mentioned any timescale re only within x months of current contract expiration.
Is is it only possible to re negotiate in the last months, I have in the past managed it during a current contract. I am concerned now that this advise which has delayed me re negotiating may mean that I am not able to renegotiate a 40/20 contract.
I also can't find the ticket where this was advised, though I'm sure that Pn staff can check on it.

podman

I'm not from Plusnet but my understanding is
(a) you can stay on 40/20 indefinitely on a rolling contract when your term contract is up, but you are very unlikely to be able to negotiate any deals
(b) negotiate a deal on a new term contract which will be on 40/2 or 80/20
(c) move elsewhere.
Usually, these only at the end of the current term contract. I don't see why they would bother to negotiate mid-term unless they had to.
However, you may also be able to negotiate a deal (b) when they give formal notification of new telephone charges,
or use that as a reason to get out of contract and move elsewhere.
I think moving to 40/2 would only go ahead if you moved house or had a new service ordered, otherwise your service stays active and PN just give you a new deal on their account side.

@podman - If the package stays the same the speed profile should stay the same.
Basically if you're on unlimited fibre and you renegotiate for a new discount on the same package, the profile shouldn't change as we're just applying new discounts.

If you can keep a package, why can't you technically offer that package also?
It exists, therefore it is.
I could understand offering say a 20/2 budget package and a 40/10 Medium package as well as a Premium as "fast as it will go" Package, each with a price level. I was originally on Fibre Extra (80/20) because I upload digital art, and because I wanted to back-up online, but this was downgraded by PlusNet when they could no longer supply above 35Mbps down, the UP used to be about 17Mbps, then 15, now 10ish. I want the 80/20 service, but I can't have it, so why should I or anyone in my position be penalised? we did not choose the lesser service, it chose us!
Fair's fair, after all.

If you can keep a package, why can't you technically offer that package also?
They could, but they want to keep the number of packages low so as (a) not to confuse customers, (b) not to confuse their sales people, and (c) to simplify negotiations with BT Wholesale (or Openreach?).
Where legacy products offer more than the current, I can see why customers stick with them, but doesn't that tell you that those currently on offer are not as good? It's not about cost, its about perceived value and to my mind, reducing value isn't something that any supplier should take seriously.

I'm not sure why your speeds have been dropped to be honest, considering you've been on the package since before we changed it to 40/2.

Leave that with me and I'll get an order placed, should hopefully be resolved for you within 24 hours.

EDIT:

@SEP wrote:
Ive been given a "discount" but because ive been paying a higher price im now paying just the current price, so not really a discount.

To clarify, I can't see that you've been paying a higher price. You were paying the standard £14.99 price for the package. As far as I can see, you've now been given a discount as you've re-contracted, not because you were paying a higher price previously.

EDIT EDIT:

Just to confirm further. I'll be putting you on 55/10 as that is what all customers previously on 40/20 should be on.
